Special run/ limited edition S&W revolver order.
It seems to me that S&W is a business, just like any other, and will produce what its customers want, as long as it can make money doing it.
This group has enough members that we could come together and do our own special order/ special run of revolvers as long as we had enough people wanting the same thing and willing to put out the cash. I think it would be worth looking into????
So, with that said, what caliber, barrel length, finish, special engraving or features would you want if you could get your dream revolver?

First, you have to be a S&W distributor. If not, would have to go through one and they will take 20%, then you need to be / have a dealer that will accept and pay for the order, ship to your dealer and take another 20%... Any gun made would have to have maybe a 500 gun minimum order and how are “we” going to get that agreed on and paid for up front? (Ever stood in line at the donut shop watching one of the pillars of the community try to make up their mind what donuts to get to fill the dozen box)? Decisions to make everyone happy are impossible decisions. Good idea but never gonna happen.

Tell us which special order you would be willing to commit to and we can see how many agree. For my choice, another 3 inch 632 without the IL and without a hole in the top of the barrel and with combat stocks.

As long as it wasn't a totally dorky gun
As long as price was reasonable
As long as it was marked as a limited run
Wouldn't matter that much, I'd buy it just to have, and I think there are plenty that would do the same.

But , everyone loves a k frame, and they still make them.
So probably a 3" barrel model 65, in black stainless, bob'ed hammer, no lock.

I don't know if one particular gun could be decided on. I do believe that is why S&W has made so many different models.
I am basically into concealment guns so I would probably want a 3" barrel with at least a 7 or possibly 8 shot cylinder. Maybe even made for 9mm to keep the cylinder more compact and without need for moons. That would keep ammo prices down for a whole lot of target practice.

I think it's a cool idea, but I think it would be hard to get enough people to agree on what to have made. Everyone has a favorite caliber, favorite frame size, favorite grips, favorite barrel length, favorite type of sights etc.

There would need to be a particular existing model, then possibly some special feature and engraving special to the S&W Collectors Assoc. (Or S&W Forum). But then all the same examples as mentioned above, Distributer to place order, Dealer to accept orders, money up front, minimum of (?) 500 guns.
A few years ago, the S&W Collectors Assoc decided to make a belt buckle available to members, a design was produced, Mfg. selected, price established but it took 100 minimum orders to make it happen. It took months to get that 100 order, and I'm not sure if there were ever more than than 1st order ever produced. Each buckle was individualized by the members name on the front and the member # on the back of the buckle.

Wilson Combat has offered Bill Wilson spec'ed Berettas ......if the info on the street is correct each was initially 1000 units at $1000/ unit = $1,000,000 up front.

K/L frame, .44 Special. I'd also be okay with something that could shoot .32 Long, like a .327 or .32 Magnum. That one could even be a J frame. Heck, bring back the Model 30 and 31 and I'd be happy.

Before the hoopleheads and naysayers get too far along. I know for a fact, that I can get the factory to do special finishes, special gunsmith packages and custom engraving. They offer this service.
I dont have to order no freaking 500 guns!!!! I can order one freaking gun and send it in and have this done, so stop with all your foolishness
All you have to do is select a current model, get them to pull x amount on consecutive serial numbers ( also easily done) and have them sent to custom shop. Yes. A distributor will have to be involved. Yes, you will pay a premium, Yes, everyone would have to pay up front and wait some time to get the gun. SO WHAT. If you dont have money to set aside or cant handle waiting 6months to a year for the guns to be complete, then move on.This would not be for you.
But for someone that's not broke, and willing to pay a premium for something cool and different, I'm sure it really wouldn't be that hard to make happen, and sending , let's just say 50, guns to be customized, should get some kind of special pricing. And if you got a YouTube star on board, finding 50 should not be that hard to do.
How many people saw hickock 45 shoot his bob'ed 3" 65 and started hunting one down for themselves? Guaran-freaking-tee it was more than 50.

I’m in for a short barrel K or L, no lock.
Bobbed hammer?
No thanks!
Bob your own hammer!

+1, even 2.75" or 2.5" barrel would be OK. Round butt, stainless or blued!

I'd be in if it had target sights, blued, a regular hammer along with the 3" barrel and no lock...
Call S&W and see what the minimum order is. There's no sense in guessing about S&W will or won't do when a simple phone call would get you an answer.
FWIW there are multiple 3" model 65's without a lock on Gunbroker right now. Black stainless is going to turn off many, a bobbed hammer will turn off half the buyers...

I'd be in for it if it were a run of 500 each (or 250 each) of 8 shot model 27's with the traditional design 5" barrel offered in blue and nickel. I'd be in for 1 of each finish.

Let's see - no lock, minimal engineering required, distinctive something....
A hammerless J frame with an unfluted cylinder.

They also tried doing calendars for this year and couldn't get the required number (100, IIRC).

100% guaranteed, the ONLY revolvers S&W will EVER make without the lock are Centennial frames - - no exposed hammers.
Zero possibility Smith would make us a no lock gun that was not a Centennial.

7" barreled nine shot 22 hornet on a K frame with titanium cylinder and a gold filled engraved hornet on the barrel. I'm pretty flexible on the grip options so would go along with whatever the majority wanted

Can it be done? Of course. Will it be done this way, asking on a forum for consensus on the make/model, with each individual paying up front? Umm, not very likely. Even if it did, it appears you may have no idea of the absolute disaster it will inevitably turn into.
It sounds good, but there are some very valid reasons why it has not been done successfully. If you are not aware of them, it is best to walk away...

8 shot 27s. Look, they're not going to make them with the IL, so don't bother asking. I agree the 5" would be my choice.
Another 327 JM. So, sort of similar to the above gun, but Ti cylinder and Sc frame. This time around, fiber optic sights and set up from the factory for an optic.
I couldn't care less about the .327 Magnum. I'm kind of with S&W on that one, since they obviously don't care either.

This would be pretty dang cool. The Taurus Raging Hornet is one of the very few Brazilian wheelguns that interest me. I don't know from an engineering standpoint if you could get 9 in there though.

Its pretty simple. I saw somewhere that they will do a custom run for an order of only 250. Not sure about that though. Give S&W a call. They will be happy to give you the details. Here is what you do. First find a distributor that you can work with. Probably not too hard to do. Then forget about any silly consensus. Just come up with whatever YOU want to have them make. Then go to the bank and ask them for a few hundred thousand dollars. Call S&W and place your order. Congratulations! You just got a job as a salesman. If you pick a gun that everyone wants, you make a big pile of money. If not you lose your house. Welcome to the wonderful world of business!

Bill Raby is tight on.
That's how my buddy and I scored on a bunch of Redhawks.
A NM local decided that would become a Police Gun Distributor.
He thought - heard that local Sheriff's Dept would be buying Redhawks.
So he borrowed money and bought a bunch of Redhawks.
It didn't happen, he was stuck with several cases of 44 Redhawks.
We bought all of them at below dealer cost.
He still lost money, but recovered most of it.
That's why the Redhawk is the Gun that I owned the most of at one time.

I'd imagine the best course of action is work with Lew Horton and send them a petition from this site.

Why's the thread still opened? We've done this before; management made clear it was not an option, simple as that, and shut the door hard.
Something changed since then? Doubtful. Leadership should speak...
In the meantime, here's how it played out last -- instructive in more ways than two:
IDEA: Distributor-Like Revolver Group Buy???
Sorry Guys
Also, S&W dropped Lew Horton years ago; they still do some the occasional Talo.

OK, so the OP is just inviting us to dream, nothing more, really. That being the case, I saw mention in another thread of one that struck a deep chord in my being, a 7 shot stainless L-frame in 327 Federal Mag. I might even be able to overcome my aversion to the IL, although I'd probably have to remove and plug it.
Dream On!
Froggie
PS To 22hipower in Post #3, what you are asking for it a Model 631 like the one I keep trying to talk Dale53 into selling me. They built it for a while but seem to have neglected telling anyone about it. I'd probably buy one of them too!

OK. So if that is the idea, "what is your dream S&W revolver?", I can go with that, I guess.
I'd commission an N-frame in .357 Magnum, 8-shot, Bodyguard Style (ala the j-frame humpback), with fixed sights, a 3-1/2" barrel (like the Model 27), and the Brush Blue finish (as used on the Highway Patrolman). I'd give it a round butt, too, so you could have it either way (using round-to-square conversion grips).
I doubt anybody else would want one of these, though.

I liked the Model 19 K-comp when it came out in the mid 90s. Missed out on it and didn’t see them come up for sale. Make one like that now and I’ll buy it, even if it has a lock.
Oh wait, bought one a couple of months ago.

For those of us in states with Approved Roster Lists this is just a tease... LOL But still fun to read your ideas.

I MUST AGREE. EVEN IF ALL OF THE ABOVE WAS TO BE RESOLVED, THE DEAL BREAKER FOR MANY OF US MIGHT BE THE PRESENCE OF THE IL......
CONVERSELY, THE ABSENCE OF THE IL, AND A SIMPLE BARREL ROLL MARK MIGHT GENERATE SOME INTEREST. I FIND THOSE GAUDY GOLD ACCENTED COMMEMORATIVES TO BE A TURN OFF.....
MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE A 2 1/2", SQUARE BUTT, M586+, WITH AN UNFLUTED CYLINDER, RR & WO SIGHTS, SANS IL, MIGHT WORK IT CERTAINLY WOULD BE UNIQUE....

This... If I could have S&W make me 1 of anything I wanted it would be:
A 2.5 or even a 2.75" barreled,
Full Under-Lugged,
Round butt "N-Frame"
In .44Mag/Special Caliber,
W/ a ramped front sight, orange insert,
Fixed (trench-style) rear sight,
PC massaged action w/Non-MIM trigger & hammer,
Goncalo Alves "Combats" stocks,
Ribbed backstrap of grip area/frame,
In Stainless Steel (for best wear against sweat/elements),
Obviously, No Damned Lock... If that would be possible I would order mine tonight! In the meantime I'm really happy with my 3" M629-5, Mountain Back Packer and 3" barreled, Lew Horton Special M29-3. Nothing balances or naturally points like those two guns for me, not even my semi-custom, 4" barreled 1911 Commander...

About the only revolver that I would currently be interested in would be a 610. Either 4" or 6.5" barrel and since this appears to be a wish list, lets add no lock.

I had some marginal involvement with such a project years ago. We had an affinity group, a peace officer's union. The guns were paid for in advance, a total of 4,000 units more or less. All Model 10, 2", 3" and 4", SB or RB were the choices. It was a huge administrative undertaking and without a mechanism to collect and sit on the money until the deal was completed it would not have worked at all. It's a nice idea, but for most situations is not practical.
