S&W 647-1 Varminter
I purchased a S&W PC Varminter 12” barrel 17 HMR brand new a couple years ago. It had been sitting in the show case for years and I finally decided to purchase it. I thought that I’d use it, but never did. I am looking to see what you guys think it’s worth, I might possibly sell it. It’s brand new, I’ve never fired it. Only test fired from the factory. It has everything from the original outer shipping box, red dot sight with box, bipod, performance center zip up case and paperwork. Also was there a lot of these produced?
Thanks in advance for your info!

I have a 647, and just for giggles I follow their sales on the auctions. The last Varminter I saw go -- about three weeks ago -- brought $2,125. Crazy money! Of course one just like mine went for the minimum bid price of $1,750 recently, too. Even crazier.
What was it P.T. Barnum said? "There's [one] born everyday."
I have no idea how many were made, but it seemed to be one of those designs S&W couldn't get happy with. Only made a couple years: 2003 & 2004, maybe the Varminter was only one year, not sure.
Good luck.

Hopefully it's worth what you paid for it. Put it up here or on one of the big auction sites and see if it gets a bite.

It stayed in the showcase for years because there are very few that would pony up for a model that had a look far different then what has been typical for S&W. The PC features turned the varmint model into something harder to manage than a rifle in 17hmr. I passed up several back in the day for crazy low prices. The standard 647 8 3/8 models didn’t sell well either but seem to have rebounded. I had one and it shot well but cases would stick, a few ruptured and I dumped it when I had the opportunity.

I just bought one here in California, Like New, but not unfired. With PC soft case, Fired casing, manual etc $900. 12” of pure varmiting fun!
Can’t wait to pick her up, thanks CA for the 10 day waiting period. :/

I just recently looked on GB and seen the 647-1 sold listings bringing quite a bit of money. What would be a realistic selling price for a NIB 647-1 Performance Center?

I bought one about a month ago. Came with all accessories except the carboard box plus a Bushnell Elite 2-6X scope along with the red dot. Paid $1250, which I think was a pretty good deal. I think I read they made either 200 or 250 of the PC versions.

That Bushnell Elite alone has a street value of $250+ these days.
