657-5 .41 mag.
Hello, I have searched and have not found much information on a .41 mag I purchased yesterday, hoping someone can help me.
I have a 657-5, 7.5 inch barrel, unfluted cylinder, smooth trigger, full underlug, adjustable sights, internal lock, serial # CHU02xx.
Any info. on this gun would be appreciated.

Probably made in 2003/2004 although CHU doesn't appear to be specifically listed in the 4th Edition of the Standard Catalog. Haven't seen all that many 657-5s and the 4th Edition doesn't have a great deal of information about -5s. It does mention a 7.5 inch Classic II (2002-2005) with product code 163946 which could be yours. There was also a 7.5 inch unfluted in 2001 with product code 103946. I have an 8 inch from the Performance Center from about the same time which isn't mentioned at all . Pictures?

The 7 1/2" Model 657 Classic Hunter was not a very popular firearm.
I find mine to be extraordinarily accurate (as most 41 Magnums are) and Very pleasant to shoot even with full power, heavyweight hand loads
I did replace the factory supplied grips on mine with some nice wood from the good folks at Hogue
These turn up for sale very rarely
Did yours include the original box? If so the date of manufacture is printed on the end label as a 4 digit number under "SPEC ORD"
Mine is a bit older than yours with a CHHxxxx serial number and having been manufactured in 2004

Thanks 22hipower. The guy I bought it from said he bought it new in 2004, so those dates make sense. I don't have good pics but I will post what the guy sent me.

I have one that I bought last year. It is superbly accurate and a joy to shoot. It’s one of the only guns I have that I can look past the internal lock.

The 2002 model (163946) has the internal lock while the 2001 model (103946) does not.
Mine is very accurate as well. At 54oz. it's the second heaviest revolver I own & get's heavy after (100) rounds of bullseye shooting. (Yeah, I'm getting old. )
My Classic Hunter, SN# DCM69xx, was made in July 2008 & I bought new (3) years after that. The LGS had it for a long time before I found it.
Obviously the SCSW's 2002-2005 date range needs to be amended.
