S&W 617-2, what are they worth?
Looking at a model 617-2, no box. Owner says it has a stainless Steel cylinder. Looking at the pictures,I would rate it 90, to 95%. What Is a good price for it?

I have a 617-2 10 shot with a stainless cylinder (center in picture), I bought it new many years ago. I would think it's worth $600 to $700, it's one of my most desired 617's, I have 3 of them. My 617 no dash (top) might be worth a bit more but it's a safe queen because my shooting sports require a 10 shot.

IIRC, sold an excellent plus condition 6" -2 with 10-shot alloy cylinder and box, papers at last Wanenmachers for $750.

Not sure of your barrel length, but 4 inchers will bring more than a 6.

I'm seeing them in excellent condition for around $700 in my area.

I tried to contact a guy that had a listing for a 617-2 for $625 in our area...
I never heard back from him, but I would have definitely made that offer.

I payed a little over $500 for my alloy cylinder. It’s seen some use but is still a great shooter. And I don’t think I have ever seen a 4” 617-2 they have all been 6”.

Given lack of box, papers and a litle wear, I'd vote $650+/- $50 in a local market ( where you'll get more intrest from shooters vs collectors.) On the high side of that if it was 4", 10 shot or had combats.
As example, this 6 shot 617 no dash, in similar condition sat in our shop priced at $650 for four months with little interest before I finally rescued it (at cost :-).
All that said, if it's something you really want, I wouldn't worry about $50 or so. You're never likely to lose more than the price of dinner and a movie on a 617 even if you overpay.
