I've got a line on a 626-6 with a 2.5-inch barrel and fixed sights. I think this is one of the limited-edition Camfour specials that were produced around 1999/2000. Only downside is this is the version with the dreaded internal lock. I've always said I'd never own a S&W with the IL, but this one is too cool to pass up. Anyone seen one of these for sale recently to establish a reasonable market value?

The last one that I saw sell was the -5 and it brought over 3 grand

I saw one like new in a gun store in the late 90's, and thought "why would would anybody want one of these?".

So, don't take stock tips from me.

Yeah, I know the non-lock versions are in the stratosphere but I haven't seen a comparable sale for the lock version recently. I've seen quotes of 300 being produced before the order was cancelled but not a breakdown of how many were made of each version.

That is a good question. I was under the impression that the original production was 300 of the dash 5, and the later production dash 6 was a higher quantity. There may be a thread around here somewhere that discusses that topic.

Since it is a snubby N frame, in a major caliber, I would guess that it is worth at least a grand. You can always take good pictures of it and list it on gunbroker - that would tell you what the value is on that gun, on that day, with those bidders

I have one that I bought about three years ago for $1000 plus shipping. It was an extremely good deal and I knew it. I could not believe no one else scooped it up before the auction ended. Very few of the Camfour guns seem to change hands so establishing a price can be difficult. It came with the "rubber" grips so I changed them out to magna grips.





My cousin has one of the Camfour 629-5 guns, without the lock. The dash 5 also has a different shape to the rear of the frame. It looks like a maxi sized Model 36 in that it comes to a point at the rear. I have been trying to talk him out of it for about five years, but so far have not been successful.

The guns that seem to bring the most money are the Lew Horton Performance Center 629-3 "Carry Comp" also called "Mag Comp" guns. They made about 495 of them in two "runs." One sold on the big on line site several years ago for $5300. Another, that looked like it had been dragged behind a truck brought over $3000. Luckily I ran up on this one and paid $925 plus tax.

They are three inch and have a "comp" on the top.







They make a formidable pair and with .44 Special rounds are pleasant to shoot and carry. The "banana" grips fit my hand better than the factory grips on both guns so that's what they wear now.

I have 1 -5 and 2 -6’s. I used to carry my camfor -6 till I picked up the performance center -6. I actually sold the -6 and it came back around to me.

Deal and transfer completed yesterday for the 629-6 from a seller in Alaska. It's a cool gun and fits perfectly in between my 3-inch 629 and 624.

Remember seeing a stack of them at a shop in Northern VA back around 2005 maybe... couldn’t hardly give them away. Guy begged me to buy one... don’t remember the price but fast forward to about 2010 and saw one in a pawn shop for $400. Passed on that one also... But, I will grab the next one I see if reasonable priced.

Nice 44 Mags. I just recently picked up a 629-5 myself. I had to switch out the Hogue mono grips for these S&W Grips.

The lock is easily snatched out and a Lock Delete installed if you really hate the lock OP. Original Precision parts, basic tools, and a youtube video is all you need...

A fixed sight 629 is still on the radar but the ones that have a home aren't getting turned loose. And the $400 days are gone.
