most accurate .357 revolver

Ive found the Human not the weapon is the determining factor in accuracy.

This and the other similar observations helped me make a decision. I will buy the gun I like, and not be concerned with how well an expect can shoot with it.

There are a tremendous number of 357 Magnum revolvers that are capable of greater accuracy than the average shooter. For mass produced revolvers, Colt, Dan Wesson (especially the Monson weapons), Smith & Wesson, even Rugers can be impressively accurate and not cost a small fortune.

As noted above, many guns (especially the tensioned barrel models and the Freedom Arms single actions) have a reputation for great accuracy.

Once you choose, make sure you are happy with the trigger action, try it with several different factory loads or develop your own (one may be outstandingly more accurate than the others in that particular gun), and make sure the stocks fit your hand. A gun with the "wrong" stocks may shoot well from a rest but not offhand. Good luck in your decision.

The Freedom Arms guns are in general super accurate. I had a old Dan Wesson 357 that was probably the most accurate 357 I've ever owned, but they put out a few lemons as well. Pythons have the reputation, but the few I've owned or shot didn't really seem that much more accurate than some of the S&W's I've owned.

In your position, since you apparently like the M17 you already have, I would simply look for a 6-inch M19-4 or earlier. Essentially the same balance, they woud use the same holsters, etc.

Lot's of good ones as long as you are willing to take the time to work up a hand load for it. If you using factory ammo it's anybody's game.

I've had several brands but thinking hand load accuracy only. Dan Wesson.

The most accurate one is the one with the barrel properly machined. I've seen a lot of nice revos that wouldn't shoot a decent group to save your life. However, after recutting the forcing cone and muzzle crown they would suddenly shoot tight groups. Nearly always the rifling is fine, just the ends were poorly done.

This can happen with any model or any brand or caliber of revolver (or other gun). When I'm buying a revo, I don't worry if it shoots or not, as long as the rifling looks good. I've gotten some good deals on guns no one wanted that way. I will recut the ends on anything I get, new or used, because then I know that barrel is as good as it will ever get. It's about a 10 minute operation to do both ends with the proper tools.

Way back in the 80's I had a 4" S&W don't remember the model, didn't shoot as well as I thought it should so I let it go and got a beautiful nickel plated Colt Trooper 4". I couldn't hit very well with that one either, sold it. Then I came across a used Ruger GP 100 SS 4" and it's still one of the most amazingly accurate revolvers I have ever had. Now own several other .357's including a 586 no dash which is fine but I still favor the Ruger, sorry S&W.

Are we talking about production guns or those that have been reworked by a good 'smith . Then you have the custom made with align bored cylinders , properly cut forcing cones & throats , uniform bore dimensions & a properly crowned barrel . A good part of Colt's accuracy was their barrels & the way they chambered their cylinders . Two most accurate production 357 revolvers that I've had were a 686-0 & a Colt 357 . Never could afford a Manurhin , Korth or even a Freedom Arms .

Robvasi, I shoot my Model 19-3 "Combat Magnum" better than any handgun I've ever shot. Accurate? Oh, yes indeed.

And the Model 19 pairs very well with my Model 17-4.

Robvasi, you mentioned you have a Model 17-6. My Model 17-4 pairs very well with my Model 19-3. Both K-frames with 6-inch barrels.

Thanks for looking at my .357 Magnum and .22 Long Rifle revolvers.

God bless,

In the past a M28-2 6" that was "Tack Driver"
Presently a M686-4 6" that is a "Tack Driver"

I've shot my M28-2 thousands of times more than all my other guns combined.

I could drop a rabbit on the run one handed by the third round - consistently.

Now I'm not so sure my bullets ever even hit the ground. LOL
