Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I have been eyeing a s&w 44 mag model 29-9. I can't find a lot of info on this particular gun and would like to learn more. I know it's a heritage series, has the 4 screw configuration and it's nickel. I'd like to know roughly how many were produced and what is the average cost. TIA

170214 Serial prefix BBRXXX is interesting in that SCSW does not state quantity made while most the other Heritage Series releases state 150 made. The guns in this series are sleepers, they are modern frame but still prelock yet under valued on the market. Collectors have not yet embraced them, so most of these sit unsold in excellent to unfired condition even tho priced reasonable in my opinion at 1100 to 1400 dollars. Because they are prelock, so never to be duplicated, and Performance Center limited editions I have been looking more closely at them. I hope this helps you.

These were the 2 I took

Isn't that a skinny barrel for a .44? Or were they made that way, like a long barreled Mountain Gun?

Same gun in blue

These guns, crafted by the Performance Center in 2001 - 2002 just prior to switching to the internal lock, were built to resemble early S&W N frames in 38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Special, .45 Colt, and .45 ACP Target Light, employing thin barrels and the extra frame screw. Thus the name "Heritage Series." The .44 Magnum variations were more recently introduced so they ship wearing target grips, which in my opinion takes away from the vintage look. I love the grips, but if the target grips were replaced with service grips it would look more like its ancestor. Here is a 29-9 in blue.

That long thin barrel might not be a problem , but I have always wondered about " barrel whip " ? Maybe someone here can enlighten me as to it's being a fact or just fiction . Regards, Paul

Since the nickel finish isn’t really offered anymore loc/ mim or no loc/ mim will bring top dollar to collectors who didn’t think nickel finish guns were worth collecting depending on condition. Shot or upshot........
