Hi, New to this, so I hope I’m doing this right?
Wondering what a Model 586 #1 of 250, 50th Anniversary of the Missouri Dept of Conservation S&W .357 Magnum might be worth? In Box, Has Certificate, & Belt Buckle still in plastic. Has Brass Plate with it that came off top of Box, Says: Missouri Department of Conservation
1937 - 50th Anniversary - 1987.
Has Gold MDC Emblem above Grip, & Has same in gold MDC 1937 - 50th Anniversary - 1987 lettering on the barrel.
Has been fired about 12 times back in the 90’s. Looks Pretty much “New” & it’s #1 of only 250. Anyone have an idea what it’s worth?

There's a difference between number one of 250 and one of 250 - which is it?

On regional or specific commemoratives there isn't too much of a premium over what a regular model of that gun would sell for. These have interest only to those people to which they are directed. Maybe a slightly higher premium if it is the first one, but still, unless you have an vested interest in it, no reason to spend any extra money.

That being said, 586's command pretty good prices, especially if they are 4", pre-lock, pre-MIM (586-4 or prior) and can bring $800 plus. The fact that this one has been shot and is apparently missing the box (presentation case?) will lower that price.

I think the question is, "How badly do you want it?"

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Model 586 50th Anniversary MDC

It is stamped MDC 1 of 250 under cylinder. It has a 6” barrel.

586 does have presentation box!

It does have presentation wood box, with red lining, & a New Belt buckle still in plastic that came in box. Still has Brass plate that goes on top of box, glue came loose from it so it’s just in the box, which has been on there since 1987 so it just finally came off, just sitting in gun cabinet.

Model just says 586

Their are no numbers behind mod 586 it just says MOD. 586.
It also has a Certificate inside a envelope says Missouri Department of Conservation 50th Anniversary Firearm one of two hundred fifty Commemorative firearms designed by Smith & Wesson etc. signed by Director of MDC & President of Smith & Wesson- L.J. Deters.

That gun would also be subject to a recall for the firing pin bushing and hammer nose.

I guess the people associated with the organization may have an affinity for it, but most commemorative guns will elicit a yawn from collectors. A no dash 586 is a nice revolver on its own merits.

A once fired commemorative gun is worth less than an unfired regular production gun. Probably worth less than 600 if it has those marking and even then you would struggle to find any kind of buyer not attached to that obscure organization. In other words who cares.
