I have been looking at a model 63, 4", no box. I would rate it 95%, or better. One thing I did notice, that the barrel, isn't pinned. What is a reasonable price, for these?

It sounds to be one of the later M or an early three letter prefix model 63, from 1982 or later, that would not have the barrel pin. Call it about a $550 gun or so.

I have one purchased new and love it as do most owners. Can't say about a reasonable price because most owners won't sell at any price. That's why you see so few if any on the market, you are lucky to see one - GRAB IT!

There's one on a local to me on buy/trade site. Claims it was made in 1977. It does had a pinned barrel.

Has the original box and everything that came in it. I could have got it for $800, but bought a 4" 686-1 instead.

It's been listed since April 6th, and he still has it.

It's not an auction, so I hope it's OK to post the link...he ships.

So true. The asking price range I've seen in my area has been $599 to $799 (+tax) depending on vintage and condition, box/no box, etc. with a few odd flyers. They certainly don't come up everyday... and they don't last long when they do. I'd love to add a second one to the collection, but I think I'm priced out of the market for the most desirable/best condition ones. :o

I got one a few years back for just about $500 OTD at a small rural gun shop in W Pa. Reasonable price???? .......if you found one grab it....... if you pay $100 too much that's $10 a year over the next 10 years of use.

It took me close to 10 years to find one locally..... in the interim I bought 2 4" 34s anib....... that were too nice to take into Penn's Woods; they rest in my safe...... will give them to the boys someday!

In the long run I guess that 63 cost me about $1,500 or so. :D

Shooter grade, no box or pinned barrel...$500s is reasonable... Just saw a nice pinned one sell for $575 on one of the auction sites the other day...usually these will bring in the $600s...

Now, I know you threw that in there just for my benefit, yes? :p

But you failed to advise that the "Bam Formula" for gun buying only works, in this case, if you've got at least 10 good years left. :)

For those old fogies like moi with zero good years left, it's $100 up front and personal right now! :D

:D

Been hearing that for at least the last 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bought mine in 2014 off GB (only place I could find one) from a seller in Ga. 1981 Model, Pinned Barrel, grips numbered to frame. $675 + $25 shipping for total of $700. Found a set of NOS J frame, square butt target grips on ebay for $45 and a vintage S&W holster at yard sale for $15. What a great revolver. Wouldn't sell it.

Seen one or two listed at Gun Shows here for $900. I think any price up to $800 would be fair. Don't regret getting it. Nice trainer revolver for those who haven't shot a revolver.

Mine is a first year NIB. Have had it for many years unfired. I would not sell at any price. JIM
Hard to find here in Oregon

I have had one for 30 or so years. One note - I have never tinkered with the trigger, but over the years it has honed down to about 2 1/2 pounds.

I’ve had a pinned barrel 63 for 39 years. I really have enjoyed it over the years. Great gun.

My 4" model 63 is the last handgun I would ever sell.

Ditto.......... a wonderful indestructible carry piece for southeastern National Forests and Game Lands. While
I have plenty of them, I don't need to carry N-frame
.44 magnums where an accurate .22 will do............rat
shot or hollow points take care of business.

I currently have 4 in 4-inch and one in the more rare 2 inch.
They are going no where.

While I frequently carry a 2 inch or 3 inch model 317 for their light weight, the model
63's are the last Smiths I would ever sell out of the collection.

Around my area, a model 63 in excellent condition will start around $700 even without
a box.
