I was endeavoring to make the perfect "for me" combat revolver. I started with the 3" Talo + but soon found that the grips which didnt allow for speedy reloads or for great precision had to go and on went the VZ.

but then I decided I would rather go fixed sight at the rear. I dont see a need for an adjustable rear sight on a 3in revolver. Meh . maybe some of you guys think its important but I dont and because of its thin profile I was having a devil of a time picking up the front sight quickly. I was actually better speed wise with my Ruger Gutter sight.

So ... fixed rear sight. Bang it all you want and it wont come out of position, the black channel is good and long so I can pick up the front sight quickly. Its serrated so as not to pick up glare and the channel is wide enough to allow light on either side of the front post. Love it!

With my first 4 shots at 7 yds I was able to take the little red dot out of the target! I Dont claim to be a killer shot. Just a guy who goes to the range twice a month. I only shoot double action and off hand and not using a support of any kind. I was killing it in a variety of stances at as close as 5 yds and also at 10 and 15. All DAO. It was now easy for my older eyes to see the front post.

I figured for giggles I would move the target out to the end of the indoor range which is marked as 25 yds. I cropped the pic to include the one I threw off the target to keep it all honest. I pulled most of them a little right but its not the sights as much as me still learned the trigger a bit. On that flyer I staged the trigger and I had long ago trained myself out of staging and my ruger doesnt real have a "staged" spot in the trigger. So I threw the staged shot. If I pull straight through like I do with my Ruger I get far better results. I havent owned a smith in a number of years but do own several rugers.

All free handed DAO 25yds. ... Great .. nah .. but if I can do it it most be a pretty well built gun and the fixed rear sight is close enough for me.

I am Thrilled with the fixed sight and the new grips.

Here is the contact for the rear sight
The Home of Quality Custom Firearms, Tactical Training and The Tactical Marksman's Match...

.. again .. disclaimer. I dont know the guy .. dont have barbecues with him. Exchanged one email. Just like the sight.

Gun is all done to my liking now and I have lots of bullets, primers and powder and probably 1000 rds of factory ammo so all I need do .. is shot it!! :)

Boriqua,

Did you have D&L do the sight installation, or did you just buy the rear sight and put it on yourself?

By the way, nice gun. Well executed how ever it was done.

I bought the sight and installed it. I marked my gun slightly just being lazy but it is an easy install. The hardest part is that the screws he sends are about 3mm to long for my particular gun so I had to cut and grind them to be sure they didn't poke out under the top strap. I took my time and they are all perfectly flush. Other than that it is cut and dry. The fit is tight at the channel for the leaf so I put a drop of oil and it went right in.

Installation of the rear sight

Just did it on my 629 there is a little work and filing required but it is easy work.

Great video brother! Sounds like we had the same idea but I went .357. To me 7 shoots of 357 with comfortable grips and lightening fast sights is just what the doctor ordered. Wish I had seen the video before I did mine.

I have VZ's on every single semi-auto I own because they offer slim line with enough aggressive texture to give grip in this Georgia and North Carolina heat. My downtown "work-gun" is a CZ "P-01" with VZ's. The grip width is thinner than my 4" 1911 Commander with slim line grips and accompanying grip bushings/screws according to my digital calipers! Pricey, but they'll last forever and the look good.

Good job on the grip and the rear sight. You mention you shoot single handed. If you shoot with a support hand too... modified weaver or isoceles you'll put those holes down the vertical line of the bullseye @ 25 yards... probably cut the split time down too, in half even. You mention "Combat" so I assume this is your carry rig that's the only reason I mentioned using a support hand. Nice shooting either way!

I love an unfluted cylinder on a short barrel as it adds a bit more balance behind the forcing cone/barrel... Nice gun and nice shooting!

I know its the wrong forum to discuss other guns but ...

I will see your CZ and raise you a turkish clone. :)

Both sporting Coolhand grips though and not VZ. A few bucks cheaper and pretty nice. IMHO .. the CZ platform is the finest 9mm out there. I dont shoot a whole lot of 9mm but these guys are hard to beat.
