Just grabbed a 610. Do I want to swap the front sight for hunting or just leave it? What brand do you suggest? Thanks

I used my 629-1 to take 4 or 5 Michigan Whitetails using the stock iron sights. Are you thinking more of a red dot or a scope?

OP, I have a recently purchased 610-3 that I toyed with the idea of using for hunting this fall. I happened to have a .250" SDM green fiber optic front sight on hand that dropped right in. Should make it easier to pick up while hunting in the deep woods and low light. Same height as the plain black factory ramp so POI did not change.

SDM also makes the fiber optic in red as well as a patridge with gold bead. With the interchangeable "classic" front sight system on the 610 its easy to swap them out to suit your needs. Good luck!

Factory adjustable iron sights.
Through the efforts of many greats, decades ago, the bugs have been long worked out. Whether it be the work of makers like King or Micro, or guys who lived in the field, like Doug Wesson, Keith, McGivern, they figured it out long ago. Square notch, U notch, V notch, peep sights, etc....It's all been done in the last century.
I'd sooner trust them than some tacticool wannabe trying to make a fast buck reinventing the wheel.
But, I've been told I'm getting to be a curmudgeon set in my ways.
So, take it with splash of hot sauce.
But, if your eyes need some help, the world of optics might be in your future.

Best Regards,
Jim

I have the HIVIZ fiber front sight on a couple of my woods revolvers and they work good in low light. Definitely better than the stock red ramp sight. For extremely low light conditions, tritium is the only way to go.
Choices are definitely limited.

Unless your 610 front sight requires drilling, it's fairly benign to swap out and see what works best for you.

Most hunting is done in low light times of day. In my experience you need something other than stock sights. Unless you have very young eyes.

LPA in Italy makes lots of different sights

This 627 has their 3 dot fiber optic sights installed. It uses the scope mounting hols under the rear sight for attachment to the frame

I presume this hunting will be in daylight

In daylight, these LPA sights come up and on target REALLY Fast

Obviously in night time, they are more of a Black on Black sight set.

If dusk to dawn is more of your time frame, I would go with a gold bead front sight and factory white outline on the rear. Or you could even go to 3 dot Tritium if you wanted.

I put the tritium sights on this revolver in 2001. I probably need to get them re-lamped :(

Better grab some shooting experience at the range with your new gun to see how the stock sights work for you. Adjust as needed.

There you go, but: the hunting field is a world apart from the target range.

Try the factory sights first before paying a bunch of money for something that doesn’t work any better.

I have always favored the V-notch/gold (or fiber) bead sights for daylight hunting.
Both on revolvers and lever/break action rifles.
Sometimes I'll put white paint on the front bead and a vertical line or dot below the V-notch.

The advice on practicing at the range is cogent.
There you can try out and find out what is going to work best for you.
I am pretty old school and never really liked scopes on revolvers.
I'd be up for trying a red dot reflex mini-sight now but I don't hunt anymore.
