Model 60 Pro Series & finger whacks

I have a Model 60 Pro Series .357 magnum, 3" barrel. I am experiencing an issue I have never heard of. When I fire the revolver the backside first knuckle of my trigger finger is getting whacked. I have to assume the inside of the trigger guard is whacking the finger on recoil. It is kind of painful but not enough to stop shooting. The whacks accumulate and after around fifty rounds the skin is broken and oozing some blood.

Has anyone ever heard of or experienced this weird issue? Do you have a work around?

One of the first times that I tried out some .357 mag ammo in my 60-14 I held my trigger finger too loose. I learned the hard way, (only did that once), that I need to use more trigger finger and tightly follow through so that my trigger finger does not get whacked against the inside of the front of the trigger guard on recoil.
 
I am heading back to the range Thursday, I will give that a try. I use the same trigger finger placement on my Models 29 and 629's but no issues with them.

With the J-Magnum revolvers, you need to know where your fingers are :)

Yes, but both of those have more mass so the recoil pulse accelerates slower

Not to mention that the N-frame trigger guard is taller with a taller, slightly different curve to the trigger

You will get used to it

That's very common, with J frame, and larger framed revolvers. The problem is how the stocks position your hand.

You can buy aftermarket rubber or wood grips that are of tremendous help in solving the effect.

Are you shooting single action?
I changed mine to Pachmyer's and shoot up to 180 hunting loads...
 
Hand size and a small J frame. Common if you have large hands{and are firing hot ammo in a small light gun} and the grips don't fill behind the trigger guard.

Quite common and ONE of the reasons I switched over to the Sig P365 for EDC. With the Buffalo Bore 158 grain +P ammo I use to carry in my M60-7 it hurt a lot with every pull of the trigger! Practice sessions were starting to wane and that's NOT a good thing!

Unfortunately - there is little one can do about that situation with the M60. Different grips might be tried - but don't hold your breath for a magical fix.

Just ONE of the reasons I try and advise people who buy M60's not to buy that revolver chambered in 357 Mag. A few shots with the Mag's and one will usually be cured from shooting them ever again! So WHY carry the extra weight? A used one (or new of you like them) chambered in .38 Spl.is all the little J Frame is really and practically good for shooting on any regular basis. I would never even load Mag's in the little Revolver as self defense shots would slow down and be less accurate for follow ups.

Change grips.
Bought one for my daughter and the factory grips looked nice but drove us nuts at the range. Rubber banana grips solved the problem for both of us.

You are right. Mine's .357, but the 5 rounds I put through it are all I will for a long time (I'm sure I'll get curious again).

But I do like the weight of the gun for .38 special and the grips feel great in my 'average size' hands.
 
I recently read on this forum that Herrett's Stocks were closing their doors, maybe they have some Detective models in inventory. A good blend of concealability and comfort:

I love my 60-15 Pro 3". With Hogue rubber grips I don't have this problem. I shoot 38s, 38+Ps and 357s. In 357 I limit myself to Winchester 357 magnum 115 gr. JHP rounds and suffer no pain. I don't try to shoot full house 357s in it, Good luck, Dennis
