Default Let's see your 617's

Hello
Finally found the model 617 I have been searching for.
It seems as though the 4" pre-lock 6 shots models have been commanding very high prices. There is a guy at one of our local gun shows that has the same one every time I see him, with a 2K price tag on it, Crazy prices. There are 6" models around for around the 1K mark but I wanted a 4". Picked this one up last week and couldn't be more pleased.
Please post your 617's for our viewing pleasure.
Thanks

Congratulations on the new addition to the family.

Those are mighty fine grips that you have on it as well.

My 4" Model 617 mysteriously disappeared over 10 years ago.

This summer I bought a current production 6" Model 617 just to have one again

It is of the 10 shot variety and I had to take the factory supplied grips off of the revolver. Fortunately, I had a nice pair of the old style Comba grips to put on it

Tomorrow will be the first day I had a chance to shoot it

I don’t own a 617. I would happily buy one if it was offered with a half lug.

I have this 617 - it's called a 6", but it's actually 5 7/8". Great shooter. Better than my old eyes. It now has a Weigand rail instead of the rear sight, and a Romeo5 - balances much better. New pics of it with the Romeo later. ATM my camera is dead.

Started with the 8- 3/8's then added the 4", at that point I figured I had to round out the collection with the 6"!

Yep, I like the 617.

S&W 617-4 6" pre-lock 10 shot 22LR. Great gun. I bought a rear sight assembly incase I remove the scope. Love it. $500 bucks out the door with all this stuff.

Default My 617-1......

Bought it unfired, 6 in.

factory rd. butt

about an hour after I picked it up, boredom sat in, so I whacked 3 inches off the barrel.

I will always wonder how it would have shot as a 6 in.

Here’s mine. Found it when I wasn’t “looking for it”. I walked into an out-of-town gun store, last year, and there it was, tagged at $700. I didn’t know anything about 617’s, at the time; so, I left empty-handed, until I could do some research. My 617 ND sat in the display case for a week, while I made up my mind, and was able to return to the store. I sure got lucky!
It gets out to the range about every other trip, and certainly earns its keep.

eta:
OP, I really like yours! Now, I'm on the lookout for a 4".

I've been thinking of selling this one to fund a 686+, 3"! I've never fallen in love with it.

Sure is a sweet set up though!

I bought my 617- no dash in an auction here in Spain for a very low price (the equivalent to 150 US dollars, if memory serves). No box or papers, but this was a real bargain because, in my country, guns cost as much as twice as in the USA

I sold all my centerfire guns and kept my 617 along with a few Ruger Mark IVs. This is my favorite gun to shoot.

C-More sight with 12 MOA dot, Hogue Grips and Extended Cylinder Release.
