I have a 2" model 10 that needs a new pair of shoes, and for smaller guns I prefer boot grips.

I honestly wish that they made a hogue boot grip for the K frame that was identical to the ones I use on my J frames, but sadly I don't think that they do.

So, I am looking for something in a boot grip that ends at the frame, and is comfy/concealable.

I had some altmont boot grips for a J-frame, but they have squared edges along the top-back of the grip that bite the inside of my thumb.

Badger's grips look nice, but I think they are a little bigger and they have that big thumb flare, not sure if I will like that. But so far I am leaning this way.

Eagles would be nice, but they are pricey and the pair that came on my 657 PC had the worse seam fitment of any grips that I have ever owned.

Spegels are perfect... but yeah, too rich for my blood (ebay ones are running $350).

Altamont offers a boot type grip for the J they might also offer one for the K.

Spegels. Save $ , get on his list and be patient, it is worth it.

Not sure if you have a RB or SB but keep an eye out for the original Uncle Mikes Boot Grips. They pop up every now and then. They were designed with help from Mr. Spegel and are made of plastic or rubber.

With that said I am also a big fan of the Spegel's on a K Frame and keep your eyes out because every now and then a pair will pop up here or on EBAY that aren't priced so high.

The majority of those on EBAY have been there for some time because they are priced to high.

I love the Spegel boot grips for my J-frame, but have never tried the K-frame version. But it'd be really hard to go wrong with Spegels.

My favorite grips for the K-frame were PGS Hideout grips. Trim grips, don't extend past the grip frame, easily concealed. My preference was for the smooth finish, but they're not slippery. They don't make a finger-grooved version for K-frames.

They're also inexpensive, around $20 from Brownells. Unfortunately, I recently checked and they're out of stock of all versions (I was looking to get another set of J-frame grips). They might be available directly from the maker, Precision Gun Specialties. Might be worth it to contact them. And if they don't work out, you didn't spend a fortune on them.

They are nice utility grips....... kind of a Boot grip version of the Round butt Target/ Banana grip......

Agreed. If function and concealment are key, these are my favorites on a K-frame. Perfect balance between hand-filling and compact, and inexpensive enough that you won't think twice about having them on a carry gun.

There are two versions for K-frames: smooth and textured. There's very little difference between the two.

Works for some, but I prefer grippier. The Hideouts are really easy to stipple with a soldering iron, then finely smooth with sandpaper to your desired grippiness.

My experience with the textured grip was with the J-frame version, and it was significantly different from the smooth version. The textured grip was like really coarse sandpaper. Just holding it was uncomfortable enough that I never bothered trying them at the range. The smooth grip has a slight pebble-grain feel, and is less grabby on covering garments.

But it shouldn't be a problem to sand them down if they're too aggressive. I do that with the sandpaper version of Talon Grips.

That PGS grip looks like the one that was on the wilson combat model 66.

My gun is a 2" model 10 round butt, I looked through all of altamont's offerings and there is a bootgrip that I might try, worst case if it bites like the one I used for a J-frame then I will just resell it. They are pretty cheap.

I had Craig make some stocks for some of my Smiths several years ago. I went w/ the "handfit" option-- cheaper in those days, also the only way to get the RB2SB stocks I wanted for a couple J-frames (otherwise not offered for J-frames in 2014). He fashioned these short birdseye boots for my 65-5 LS.

I asked him to make these boots "extra plump" to better fit my larger hands-- they fit fully, and perfectly. Since I'm a lefty I also asked him to scallop both sides, which he did. Since this photo was taken I sanded a shallow groove bottom front corner, MUCH more comfortable on the inside of my pinkie finger.

Craig uses spray lacquer to finish-- I prefer tung oil. So I had him deliver the stocks unfinished (shown). I've handrubbed somewheres 16/18 coats of pure tung on the maple over the course of many months, stopping when the gradual buildup of amber pigmentation gave me the grain contrast I wanted.

One of the best "Smith" decisions I've made.

Nice to see all of us posting together! My 586-L DID come with a Hogue-ish rubber boot-type grip similar to that on some J-frame models. Open backstrap, and a tiny 1/2 groove for the pinky. Should be possible to "Dremel" off that 1/2 groove and get a true boot grip. BTW, it is as difficult to install as the J model! Hope all this helps!

Sweeeet..... had Craig make me a set of Extended Birdeyes maple Boot grips for my 4" factory round butt 586-5.

Them's the ones, altho mine have the S&W logo in place of the Hogue.

An L-frame but with Spegel's. The downside, I waited two full years before delivery.

I use Hogue bantam cocobolo grips on most of my 6XX's except the 642, they are fine for me as is and the size conceals better. Here's a few of my stainless revolvers with the left three wearing the Hogues bantams.

I haven't bought any in a while but I used to get a decent deal off of Midway USA.

I, too, like boot grips but I don't like the "orphaned" little finger that they cause. Spegel remedies that issue with his extended boot grip. I was luck enough to find a set several months ago.

Although they are kinda ugly...
The Pachmayr Pro Compac grip is a perfect boot grip for the K frame, in my experience.
Flush with the grip frame, no finger grooves, grippy but doesn't stick to clothing...
Cheap!!

Nothing to look at, but they are very comfortable. I kinda like them.

I prefer VZ . Excellent hand purchase and inexpensive.

I like Eagle Secret Service boot grips, Hogue Bantam rubber or wood, Ahrends and Spegel’s are also nice.
