Hello All,

My wife and I are beginner shooters & have joined a range club and have put about 300 rounds through our 327, which I really have found perfect for our needs. We live out in the boonies and I am looking for recommendations for a holster. Not for CC, just for carrying around our 5+ acre parcel. Mountain lions and coyotes are night/day callers as noted in the local paper on a weekly basis.

All recommendation will be most gratefully received! Across-the-chest, on the hip whatever you have found to be the go-to holster for your 327 R8. I have not had the time to do anything to the revolver internally, but I would like to do something with the front site at some point.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond!

Well, I don't have a 327 R8, but I do have a few 4" N frame revolvers. I also have a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster that does pretty much everything I need it to do.

I carry mine strong side. Before my love-handles started pushing the butt of my guns away from me, it even concealed a full-sized revolver pretty well. This holster can also be used cross-draw as it comes, or it can be converted to chest carry. I have never used their chest straps, so I cannot comment on how well they work.

I do not carry mine so I bought the Don Hume JIT slide N Frame holster for the range.

It’s a nice holster but doesn’t cover the barrel. The upside is that it works for all N frames.

I wouldn’t hesitate wearing it for walking around a property as long as I didn’t need to do anything requiring stronger retention (climbing, crawling around, etc.).

Don Hume JIT Holster

ScottN hit the nail right on the nose. The JIT holster follows the original design of the original Hume Agent 9 holster designed back in the late 60's early 70's for the Ill. State Police District 25 (Detective}Division to carry their Model 39's. It was a very popular used holster that was soon made available for a number of both autoloaders and revolvers. I have several and a couple of years ago bought a JIT to carry L-Frames. I have found it to be very useful. All my very best, Joe.
