Locally, I found a 2005 57-5 MG for sale - Asking price is $1,400 which I felt was a little high but he's taking offers. I'm considering adding it to my collection but am not familiar with the opinions on the lock and IL hole - can someone explain pros/cons?

Had one...nice gun but sold it to a friend's son in Kalifornia who needed a Smith with The Hole...

There was only the one run of the Model 57 MG. I think the blue steel mountain guns are much more attractive than their stainless steel brethern
Obviously, I change the grips on mine. The old factory round but combat grip fits my hands very well
If you want one you have to learn to live with the lock
For me that is no big deal, I just ignore it

Love 41 mag and love mountain guns, but 1400 for a S&W with an internal lock is absurd.
For 1400 you could find a super rare 3" 657 that already has Goncalo Alves finger groove combats.

Thanks for the input, that price is negotiable, he put it out there to avoid lowball offers - what it's worth is part of the equation but a MG in .41 has been on my list for a while, so there's a little bit of "I want it" factored in as well. I get it, some people don't like the locks.
Did ya happen to see the one offered up here in our beautiful GUNS for sale section !?!?!?!?
