Default S&W 686 plus pro for daily carry

I been using my smith and wesson 686 plus pro series for daily carry for a while now. I know its a little overkill. But its serving me well.
Not to hard to conceal. And its not to heavy. Thoughts?

Yes, heavy, bulky and IMHO; not a friendly EDC CCW.
Maybe if you live, work or travel in a very bad area, I would go with something a little more friendly like a magnum J frame or a Shield in any caliber.

I been carring it for a while. The only problem I am having is the holster is ****. But so far no one said anything about it.

Thumbs up Carry

i say carry what you want . conceal as best you can . practice with what you carry . to me PRACTICE is #1 . practice with the ammo you plan on carrying enough to be confident with it . i occasionally carry on the large side but most of the time 642-1 or model 60 usually both . i carry the 60 in a custom made crossdraw made by subbyfan on this forum . 642-1 in front pants pocket .kenny MT USA

The idea behind this thread was to see if anyone else has carried one.

A bit bigger than I'd want to conceal on a daily basis, but if it works for you, it works for you.

I'd suggest getting a good holster, though. Maybe a good gun belt if you're not already using one. And you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money to get quality.

I've carried concealed a 3" 65 for 12+ hours/day on a regular basis with a good IWB holster and a good gun belt. Had no problems with it.

My only experience carrying a L-frame was a 4" 686 when I worked as an armed guard several years ago. I didn't like the issued holster, so I got a decent duty holster, a black basketweave Safariland thumb-break model. Made it more comfortable for the 8+ hour shifts I did (a couple of times I did 16-hour shifts), even with a Sam Browne belt. The best part was that I got it out of a holsters-for-sale box at a gun show for $15.

I carry by S&W 686+ 2.5" barrel, love it. Not heavy, easy to hide. If you're going to carry, carry the game ender. I've been carrying mine for years, never had a problem.

Default Try an MK Tek holster

I Carry a 686 2 1/2” frequently. MK Tek makes an excellent IWB Kydex holster that is comfortable and conceals well. I asked them to make a K-Frame for me, but they were not able to access a gun to make a mold from. The belt clip is along the side, instead of on top of the cylinder, reducing bulk, and the key to how well it works.
I think you will not be disappointed.

Take care.

Hey, if you're happy with it, nothing else matters. The only comment I would have is: It's not overkill. My EDC when not having back and hip issues is a 4 inch Model 65-1.

I happily carry mine. Weighs less and is shorter than a 1911.

My lifestyle works well with my carry choices, as I'd imagine yours do.
A Galco Combat Master with a 3" 686+ and two speed loaders is in my CC rotation. Very confident and comfortable with it.
My EDC, a CZ PCR with reload, weighs almost as much and carries as well.
I have smaller and lighter options, but prefer these most of the time.

Sorry my original post was a bit poorly wretten. Not my best day.
Yeah, my revolver is serving me well. I lost a lot of weight. So my shirts are real loose.I wear a under shirt with a untuck button up shirt over my gun. So far so good. My custom roper grips help allot too.
But I need a better holster. The one I'm using now is doing the job. But there is room for improvement.
I am thinking about getting a sholder rig. Have any of you had good louck with one of those?

You asked about shoulder holsters. I have carried a revolver as my EDC for 4+ decades. I have tried a lot of holsters. For large revolvers, the shoulder holster fell to the “try again later” box very early. I could easily carry a J or K but once I started carrying my N frame the importance of a good OWB holster and better belt became obvious. For me, the Bianchi 5BH was a good holster for the 4” N frame. A better holster was the Safariland M29. My favorite holster is a Brill copy but they are not for everyone.

Unfortunately , choosing a holster is not only a personal experience but until you find what works for you, it is an expensive experience!

Too bad we can’t swap them like library books to see what we like.

I think you're on a good track. I carried a model 66 2.5 inch for a while. No issues.

I’m now carrying an L or N frame 4”or5” gun. The 686+ PC has a 5” barrel and I carry it in a Dale Fricke AIWB. The other L frame is a M 69 with a 4.25” barrel also in a Dale Fricke, even more comfortable. The N frames are 629 V-Comp or a 625, both 4” also in a Dale Fricke AIWB. Can’t recommend him highly enough. The 625 just snuggles right in and is very comfortable to carry but the moon clip holder (speed Beez) is a little bulky. I have 5 star speed loaders for the M69 that works quite well. Good luck

I was carrying around in a custom gun belt when I'm not going to town. I can't fit the gun belt anymore. Lost to much weight.
L-frame smiths is probaly the best middle ground you can get. Not to big, not to small.

It was poorly written. I was looking for others carrying a similar gun.

Just my opinion of course (and I do own one) way too heavy and big for EDC - but that's just me. I was NEVER a fan of "dressing around the gun" and always likes a gun that I could conceal and carry all day with the clothing I REALLY wear.

Carried a M60-7 for many many years and now carry a Sig P365. 11 9mm +P's in a reliable pistol I can slip in the pocket of my Jeans in a DeSantis Nemesis Holster and carry comfortable and concealed all day long.

I love my 686's and carry them frequently. You do have to dress for it, but I don't mind.
