I was finally able to get to the local in-door range and shot my 629, 8 3/8". Mechanically everything great, only fired at 10 yds at a target with a 4" bull. With the rear sight bottomed out, it shot about 4" high. I had to hold on the bottom ring of the target to get the results shown in the pictured target. I have all the components now and will mount a Holosun HE507C green circle and dot on this revolver. I'll post pictures and a target when the project is complete.

That looks outstanding to me, all the rounds where it counts and one flier. I mounted a Trijicon RMR2 on my 629-6 6.5" when I got home from the hospital and rehab following surgery. Then came the Covid shutdowns, both ranges are still shutdown. I could go to some public land but sometimes some people start shooting while others are down range and if you are alone show a very keen interest in your guns.

Please share a range report with the Holosun HE507C, I look forward to reading it.

Good shooting OldChief!

Good shooting Chief! It seems like bullets tend to climb the first 25 yards or so. I think you'll like the optics. Mine make all the difference for me.
(Where's the dirty gun pics???)

I've posted pictures in earlier threads and I will again in a few days when I get the new sight mounted. Here, I'll give you just one. Also, haven't been able to get 200 grain bullets around here
so I just ordered some in .45 Colt from Acme but they're out of 200 grain .44s so I put them on my wish list. They say that they're planning to cast some in 3 or 4 weeks.

I haven't shot my 629-4 with 8-3/8" barrel for years. Makes me want to go out and exercise it a bit!
Anyone have an idea as to value on these beauties? Were the S&W rubber grips factory?

Value depends on age and condition. The OP’s no dash P&R 629 is probably worth a little more as a collector. In my opinion a 629-4 would be the next most valuable, it has all the endurance upgrades and is drilled and tapped under the rear sight.

S&W logo Hogues were standard for a 629-4 in both the square butt and round butt configuration. Those Hogues are still in production for round butt guns but not square.

Here are my two 629-4 8 3/8s. One is an early transitional square butt and the other a later round butt.

encouraging group, OP.....for additional fun WITHOUT a scope, given you handload.....I found a 200gr 44 special load, that gave me (literally) golf ball accuracy in 8 of 12 shots at about 60' from the bench!!! No photos but far more satisfying than paper. I mix a variety of targets, falling steel plates, various range trash, & golf balls, as challenge. Not all at the same range session, as paper targets provide important feedback as well.

You have my attention, what's the load (I prefer 200 grain .44s). As for golf ball accuracy, you obviously never saw me play golf. I often wondered why all the other players around me wore hard hats!
