Decided to go red dot on my 629s this year for hunting. Primary purpose is closer range shots because once it gets to 50 yards or more, the rifle will come into play for various reasons.

Mount of choice to date has been Allchin. I like the clean look and they use all 3 mounting holes. Did pick up a couple EGWs to play with but stuck w/ the Allchins.

Red dot of choice has been Holosun (407/507) but ran out of elevation adjustment when sighting point of aim at 30 yards. Shoots high at 30 and would still be bottomed out if poa was 50. The EGWs do have a slightly lower profile, which would set the red dot closer to the bore axis and probably help with the elevation adjustment. On a side note, I slapped on a Votatu red dot and was able to sight in w/o any issues. Kinda like having the built in co-site that mimics a rear sight because it helps acquire the red dot faster.

Any one else have similar issues w/ the Holosuns? Note I have one on my M&P 10MM PC and no issues sighting POA to 25 yards.

On my 6 inch 629-4, which was purchased used and has signs of the previous owner having some sort of optic on it, I have a Weig-a-tinny short mount. Leupold Delta Point Pro is the optic. Until just recently, I’ve never had any issues with any of my Leupold products and I have about 15 of them.

Sorry, no Holosuns.

The Weigland mount and Leupold DPP went on flawlessly. Works well, shoots well. I like red dots a lot. They’re like cheating if you’re shooting from a rest. They have their trade offs, of course. If you want the tiniest of groups, a scope is the way to go.
