My Second Edition of the Standard Catalog stops before this model. It seems to be a model with the built-in safety lock, but has the classic cylinder release shape. Is this a "MIM" gun with frame mounted firing pin, or the "traditional" hammer with f/p? Looking at a long barreled Nickel gun with case.

Currently I'm without a S&W .44 Mag (gasp!). Would like a 29-2 or earlier, but this came up and seems interesting. It is currently unfired, but won't stay that way.

Thoughts? Oh, and lest anyone think I'm without ANY .44 Mags, I have a pair of of Rugers, a Rossi carbine and even a Desert Eagle. Just no S&W right now.

I have 2 model 29-10's . One is 4" barrel , the other 6.5" . Yes they have mim parts, yes they have the frame mounted firing pin and yes , they have the " endurance " pkg . The 29-2 and -3's do not . I am very happy with my 29's . Good Luck , Regards Paul

The 29-10 is a good shooter without a doubt.

If you’re looking for a revolver to shoot a ton of 44 magnum ammo in, it’s a better choice than a 29-2. However, the vast majority of 44 mag revolver owners don’t shoot that much: rarely more than a box or two throughout the time they own them.

29-2’s are widely available for a bit more than the mim, frame mounted firing pin, lock varieties and are much more desirable.

They're good shooters. I had a 29-8 which is the Mountain Gun variation but mechanically identical to the -10. Yes, with the IL and no P&R it'll never have the same cool factor as the older guns, but you can shoot the snot out of it and not worry about wrecking a collector's piece. There's literally nothing about those features (or lack of features) that improves trigger pull or ability to put bullets on target...the whole point of shooting.

When I purchased my new unfired s&w m29-10/6.5” barrel in blue I read before it’s the best m29 that’s offered by s&w. It has all the upgrades in one package. After reading that the m29 doesn’t come any better. The Klingon hole and mim parts doesn’t bother me.

I have a M29-10 with a 4” barrel and it is one awesome revolver. Don’t let the lock turn you away from getting one.

BTW : I have numerous 44 caliber molds I would like to sell , if you know of anyone interested . I have the Lyman 429421 in a 4 cav , almost new in the original box . RCBS 245-250 gr Keith style . A mold from a co. no longer in business . IIRC , it's a swc listed as a 434640 . Supposedly casts at about 265 grs ( I have never used it ) , just what I read somewhere . I believe I have the same mold design for the 41 magnum . It's probably around 220 grs . Seems like I might have a few molds from Tom Ellis @ Accurate Molds for 38special/357 mag , 41 mag , 44 mag and 45 colt . If any interest , PM me for further details . Thanks Regards Paul
