Model 19-5 2.5" EDC
So I have been searching for a 2.5" model 19 for a bit. After carrying the 4" 19 and the j frames, I wanted to split the difference and get something I wanted, something I can EDC in the desert, woods, and around my small town. One firearm to do it all. I love 357/38 so I began my search.
Didn't have much luck locally looking around shops, had some bad experiences on GB, and all of the ones I saw here were so nice and collectors pieces I would have felt bad tearing it up doing what I do. I paid more than I would have if I had come to this realization a few years back, but you can't take it with you and when I want it, I go buy it.
Luck struck and member here had a 19-5 for sale that was a shooter and it was in AZ to boot so I jumped on it and took the three and a half hour drive to the valley.
From picking it up in person I immediately went and dropped it off at Nelson Ford's shop before I headed home so he could give me a nice trigger job and do anything else he needed to do. Then I set about ordering up my preferred K frame CC grip combo... bk grip adapter and altamont classics. Then a nice AIWB holster from Erich over at Side Guard who has done about seven of my revolver holsters now and I am in business.
Here she is fresh from the Doctor with the new grip setup:
I have 135Gr Speer GD Short Barrel for day to day cruising. 158 Gr Deep Curls for when I'm out and about, and some hard hitting 180gr hard cast loads for when I'm up in black bear country. All in 357 flavor. The speed loader holds the 38 +P version.
I can carry her anywhere I need to where I like to travel now and I could not be happier with my purchase and now that she is back, today is a good day.

I always thought those 2.5” 19s were tough guns to shoot accurately, but if you’re not needing target pistol-type precision they are a fun challenge. I have one similar to yours. It might be a 19-6. I can’t recall. I need to get it out and shoot it a little. Glad you found just what you were looking for. Congrats on your new .357!

I’m glad the 19 went to a good home where it will be used, carried, and cherished. Nelson I’m sure did a great job with it too! Thanks again for the smooth local transaction, stay safe

Yeah he said it was in great shape. Tight, good timing. Now the trigger is just a wee bit nicer.
Its a great shooter too... 15 yard samples one handed:
Thank you again!

It's hard to beat the K-frame Smiths for an all-around carry 357 Magnum.

I have a 19-4 that I carry sometimes. Mine came with magnas which are too small for me and I put Altamonts on it also. I use 129gr JHP from Federal in 38+P.

My Model 66, stainless cousin of your 19 wearing a pair of Mr. Grashorns pre-war shoes.
The gun has so many miles on it, it should qualify for “frequent flyer” points.
My EDC for years, it has served me well with nary a problem.
Congrats on your purchase!

As far as accuracy is concerned. The range I shoot at has plate racks at 10 yards. The plates are 6 inch diameter. For me I can’t tell the difference between my 21/2 66 or my 4inch.
I think you will be very pleased with your purchase.

I absolutely love the 66/19 2.5". I’ll never be without one of each.
There was a nice 2.5” 19-3 with box and goodies at last week’s show in Reno. $1295

The wood-handled snubby 19 is maybe the most aesthetically pleasing late era S&W. Absolutely love it, and practically be damned I wish I'd kept the one I bought years ago.

The 2.5" .357 snubbies make great EDC guns. I have both a 19 and a 66 that serve in that role. Nelson Ford is a great S&W gunsmith, and he did a masterful job on the 66 pictured. It's a dash 2, so not as collectible as the no-dash and dash ones; therefore I won't worry about it as much if anything goes south.

If you search for Side Guard Holsters Quick clip it will come right up. He is great because he will customize the ride height based upon how you want to carry.

Very nice setup. I get spoiled by the airweight guns, but every now and then I’ll tote ol’ shiny.
As an added bonus, you can shoot down small planes if you adopt the Rockford Grip.

Mine is a 19-3 but thanks for the holster recommendation. Have a feeling it’ll be my EDC soon.

Had a great time. Holster worked great. did a lot of hiking and wore it the whole camping trip
Also won 50 bucks total off two Glock guys who thought there was no way I could hit a 12" gong at 100 yards before them with a snubnose. Took 3 shots. Beat them handily.
I love this revolver.

It was a mercy killing...Glock guys would just waste their money on more Glocks anyway...Just don't tell my tenant I said that, she's deadly with her Glock 48... ...Ben

I’ve got a 66 in similar setup. I’ve been eyeing those side guard holsters. I might just be ordering one for my 66 and my Detective Special that’s about to come in

I had one of those about thirty years ago. Back then (in the unenlightened dark ages), people put things like Pachmyer Compacs on their short-barrel Combat Magnums, usually after shooting some full-power .357 loads for the first time. I know I did! Being a barbarian, I thought the rubber grips looked better than the Magnas.
One could write a book about the drawbacks of short-barreled magnums versus other choices in handguns, but let's face it: the 2 1/2" Model 19 is probably the sexiest snub-nose ever made!
Thanks all for the great pics of both guns and rigs!

I kept my 19-3 for quite a long time, but the 66-1 (both 2.5"ers) was about the only one I carried. I was worried about sweat and holster wear on the 19, so once I was able to double my money, I sold it. The 66-1 still gets out quite often.
I have to admit, the 19 is the best looker of the two.

I can’t recall. I need to get it out and shoot it a little. Glad you found just what you were looking for. Congrats on your new .357!

One of my closest friends (an incredibly gifted pistol shooter) has head shot prairie dogs with his 2.5" M19-3 at least seven times in front of me and others at 65-80 yards, two hand hold, unsupported. The gun is incredibly accurate, and can do amazing things in the right hands.
Glad to see you got your dream gun!
