I am so easy, such a pushover...
I was in my local gun shop yesterday, and the little demon that runs it said, "Hey, look a this!" A beautiful Model 29-5, I don't even shoot or reload 44 Magnum, but he shot me a price and with my store credit and a little extra I got it for $900.00.
Took it out after finding one box of Winchester 240 grain jacketed soft point. Fired twelve rounds at 25 yards, sighted in almost perfect for me.
I'm not sure if the grips are original S&W or not....I'm not crazy about them...but they are functional.
My brother is bringing me his dies and some brass.

Congrats!
Those stocks are S&W square butt Combat stocks, they are bringing 250-350 for a set in good shape.

Thank you for the information, I wasn't sure if they were original or custom.
The picture behind the pistol is "Cherry Bomber", my daughter in law painted it for me from a photo I took of some nose art on an F-105 Thunderchief many moons ago.
I had a 44 magnum Ruger way back in the 70s and sold it to pay for a semester of college.

Nice grab. If you consider yourself a pushover, then I'm a marshmello when it comes to deals like that.

Critch - What a score!!! Even though I balk at today’s prices (one can only dream they might come down - even just a little) I would have paid that with the combat stocks. I don’t have a .44 and have been thinking about it. That would have made my mind up in less than a second.

I'd have bought that in a heartbeat and I don't need one as I have two already. A deal passed on is a deal missed.

Congratulations! My favorite pawn shop closed and it's saving me money. I used to go in there and something would show up that wasn't even on my radar screen, but I would have to buy it. You only go around once, enjoy it while ya can!

Sounds like a great deal. And that you have reloading materiel coming to you is a superb bonus in these exceptional times.
May that .44 do you well for many years to come!

What a buy and what a first time Mod. 29 to acquire! I hope you don't have the same problem that I did in wanting a .44 magnum in different barrel lengths!
Congratulations!

I was telling a friend of mine about my new pistol and he hauled out a blued Model 29, 4 inch barrel with grips that imitated Elmer Keith's steer grips. I mentioned that the pistol must be a problem to hold onto with those dinky grips and he admitted that he has only shot hot 44's out of it a few times. Mostly he shoot 44 Specials. I love the look of those grips, but I really don't think they're practical. Of course, if a grizzly is charging you I doubt you would notice the recoil.

Once upon a time if someone offered my one for $900 I would have laughed until I cried and then walked away. These days, most N-frame S&W's of any caliber are fetching $1000 or more. That's a nice Model 29-5 and I think you did well and that you are going to love 44 Magnum. Although you can certainly shoot 44 Specials in it, you might want to start reloading 44 Magnum brass. A 240 grain cast LSWC over 9 to 10 grains of Unique makes a real nice load; more velocity than 44 Special, but less than full power 44 Magnum and often incredibly accurate.

I want to trade grips with you but these "double speedloader cutout" grips on my 29-5 would be even "more incorrect" on your gun. Nice package you have there. Joe

Now, thanks to your generosity, the grips reside on a stainless brother:

I have 5 44 magnums and I'd jump on that one at $900.
I don't like the combats much either, I'd sell them for around $250-$300 and be into the gun for $600 or $650.
Them's pre-COVID prices!
