A few to choose from if I was headed to a BBQ (these are a little older than most of the guns in this section of the forum, but still appropriate for a BBQ):

Some nice examples above. I collect shooters, but this 1911 and Model 586 may qualify, at least they are shiny.:-)

Retirement Sig 1911.jpgWould this count? Sig STX 1911 retirement gift after 19 years as Chief Ranger of Wyoming State Parks. Bison image on the slide after having a Bison on the side of my car for 38 years and State Parks logo on the grips. I qualified with it the next day!

I wanted a double drop leg rig like you'd see the bad guys have in the old time westerns or in series like the Lone Ranger. I looked on line but the prices were out of my league for more or less a wall hanger. I ended up modifying a triple K plain black leather belt and holster set.
Whoa! Sammy Davis, Jr. would (and probably HAS) wear that! That is just badd*** for sure! Leather pants & vest to match!

My barbeque gun. Doesn't look like much. But I'd love to know its story.

It's one serial number off from a group of commercial pistols acquired by the Marine Corps at the beginning of WW1.

It was no military proof marks on it, but it does have the A1 upgrades.

I'll get a letter from Colt one of these days.

Although there are a lot of very impressive barbecue guns in this thread, this is what I thought I'd see when I opened it. Probably 'cause I ain't from the south.
I've heard a reference to a TV gun, and wondered how many folks fondle their guns while watching TV.

Interesting concept.

For a Texas size BBQ I guess it would be this Ruger Vaquero engraved by the late Bob Valade in cattle brands.

Would need to find a suitable holster rig for it.

Default Barbeque just right

Hamilton Bowen took a Ruger Old Model Blackhawk in .357 and turned it into this .44 Special. Holster is by El Paso Leather. Fits well with a BBQ get together.

In the unlikely event I'm ever invited to a Texas BBQ this one would have to suffice.

Default Texas cattle brands

No more traditional SW barbecue guns than a couple TX cattle brands…ivory gripped is a 3rd Gen. Nickel produced 1904.

Question

I'm from a little town down there that you probably heard a lot about last year, that being Del Rio. I've lived in Utah for 40 years now but DR is still always in my heart. Anyway, my BBQ gun would be my new stainless Python with Rogers repro Official Police grips. There's just something perfect and full circle about this setup. As for the holster, I'm working on it. Stay tuned.

Also, if I were to carry a Smith instead, it would be my pristine Victory Model. This gun was released by the DSC in September 1944 to the Fort Worth PD. As for a holster, it would be my repro US-stamped revolver flapover.

Default What’s better for Bobby-Q than blue steel and ivory

I hope everyone here likes Colts… oh forgot I was going to identify my New Frontiers. Both 3rd gens. Bottom I believe is a 45 LC with D.Chesiak ivories. Top NF is a 44 special with Factory ivories…shhhh, wait for it.

BBQ season is a ways off here in Michigan and deer season is even farther away but this knife just came in today's mail from Mike Miller. Paired with the M19 I should be properly attired for either event.

I own 3 guns that I guess would meet this criteria. A SW 1911 machine engraved 1911, a Ruger SP101 Talo Edition and a Walter PPK Talo Edition.

You guys got some pretty fancy guns.

Actually I’m into nice grips. Got these beautiful MOP from one of the forum members recently. They’re on my model 15-3 from 1970 that I had bead blasted and electroless nickel plated thirty years ago. I had the front sight replaced and a super slick action job done.

The 1911 is my Kimber Eclipse Target in 38 super. I really love the look and feel of the elk grips.

WildBillWJW,

Re: Your post 'Texas Cattle Brands'.

That engraving certainly looks like the work of Cole Agee. Do you have any history of that revolver?

BTW, beautiful.

Would this qualify? Retirement gift from my friends upon retirement after 38 years in law enforcement, the last 19 as Chief Ranger for Wyoming State Parks. Sig Sauer 1911 STX with the agency logo in the grip and a bison on the slide.

Nice!

My other BBQ is a Pietta 1851 US Marshal in .44 Caliber.

Also, Elmer Kieth spoke highly about the .41 Long Colt being an excellent gunfighter cartridge and being better than the .38 Special.

I wish they were Cole Agee originals…actually both engravings done by David W. Harris, a few years ago. If you’re familiar with Agee, and the cattle brand engraving history, you know David was a protégé of Weldon Bledsoe; who spent some time with Cole. I find it’s history interesting.
