Default GB Bargain

Thought I’d share one of the guns I’d been watching on GB.

It sold for what I consider a bargain in light of current realized gun prices.

A member of this forum was able to pick it up. Nice snag!

Nice score!

Made better because it looks like a no dash gun due to it's early cylinder release and forged/flash chromed hammer and trigger. Also the BPE serial dates it to 1993ish.

Too bad it's missing it's original combats.

Here's my -1. Still and forged hammer and trigger, but you'll note the later parts/finishes.

That said, a 617 in any variant is a great gun and the buyer got a great deal these days!

Somebody got a great deal. I don't think it is missing the combat stocks as those were discontinued during the -1 period. Early -1s had combats but S&W switched to synthetic before the end of -1 production.

Edit: Agree with rwadley1, the SN indicates it is earlier than a -3. Odd that the seller listed it as a -3. According to the Standard Catalog it should have been in the -1 range. In any case, a bargain for the buyer. And given the timeframe, it could have come with combat stocks, mine with SN BRLXXX has them, and BPE theoretically would have been earlier.

Yup, that sold way too cheap.

Looks like the seller has been a member of GB since 2007, but this was his first sale. He does have 4 previous feedbacks for purchases. That may have scared a few buyers off.

You’ll also notice that he didn’t include “S&W” or “Smith & Wesson” in the title, he simply listed it as “ Model 617-3 (6) shot”. That doesn’t help perspective buyers find the listing.

I’ve snagged some really good deals at online auctions when sellers failed to properly identify or misidentified the item. One was an item advertised as made by “Wincester” and another by “Styer”.

Great deal! With the upcoming Holiday weekend, there are generally some good deals too be had since quite a few people will be away from their computer. Good weekend to be a buyer.

Color me jealous. Back when they were selling for 5 to 6 bills, I told myself that was too much and I needed to keep an eye out for a bargain ...

I'm still looking.

New seller and a description lacking pertinent information didn't help the seller.
A few months back I picked up a Single Six Bisley on Gunbroker for a much lower price. A big seller had neglected to add Bisley anywhere in the description drawing less attention and got me a heck of a deal.

His mistake was that he made the BIN waaaaay too cheap. He obviously didn't do his homework.

I keep watching guns thinking they’re going to be the next bargain. And then they are not.
