Model 29-8 American Pride. Performance Center
What are the going prices on American Pride model 29's these days? Are they good shooters? Overall quality?

Personally, I'd just get a Vintage M29. I have sort of lost faith in modern production PC guns. Just read the many comments posted on this Forum about them.
I wish I did not have to say that (and it saddens me), but it is what it is.

Looking at a,nice condition one ( PC black soft case , manual , whatever else came with the gun , etc). Seller ( someone I know ) wants me to make an offer if I decide to but it. I was thinking a 1000.00 ( ?). It is an odd looking gun though. Also . I never owned S&W revolver with that lock. All the ones I have are pre lock , pre mim . Are those later revolvers with the lock in magnum calibers holding up ok ?

I was able to look up some info on the forum here. How was the quality during that period 2005-2006? I dont care about finish , I am talking mechanics. I never owned or shot recent revolvers . All mine are pre lock and older.

Truthfully, I can not recall many complaints about Performance Center revolvers here on the Forum.
I probably own two dozen Performance Center revolvers that were manufactured between 2001 and today.
$1000 for that revolver would be a very good buy for you in today's market
You will be quite happy with how the firearm handles mechanically as well as how it shoots.
I do not think of the lock. I never use it and never pay attention to it so it never bothers me. Here are a few of my post lock revolvers
Since this is a Friend, can he/she meet you at the range and let you bust a few caps?
Worst case, if you purchase it and do not like it, you can always put it up for sale

Got to shoot it Excellent revolver. But feels too heavy .😔 But has good accuracy. I am just a lot more used to standard 4 inch model 29's and 629's I guess.

Question on this PC 29-8. How different is it from a regular model 29 made during the same time ( 2005)? (Other then looks)

The only differences between your gun and a standard 29 are the non-fluted cylinder and the barrel. Also, at least the earlier PC offerings, had a little trigger work done.
ETA: The extra screw at the top of the sideplate is an add on.

In the olden days, Firearms(not plastic) made in the Performance Center were built entirely on their own CNC mills.
In many cases the CNC code for those frames is different than what is manufactured on the production floor. Sometimes it is insignificant and other times it is major.
One of the best examples of the Performance Center modification to a frame was the changes the Performance Center made to the J-frame for the PC 940 Special to get it ready for the 50,000 PSI 356TSW cartridge. Those changes led to the release of the J-Magnum revolvers two years later
The tooling used in the Performance Center mills is replaced more frequently than on the production floor. This is intended to keep tolerances tighter on PC guns
Most of the barrels on Performance Center revolvers are air gauged to .001" for better conformity
The 4th sideplate screw is a carry over from the Heritage series revolvers. It is there for nostalgic charm, not function
Obviously the barrel profile of your Model 29 is unique to the Performance Center
All of those things contribute to the higher MSRP of Performance Center firearms
Some folks think they are worth it, others could care less. I fall into the worth it group 
Now there are firearms that are made on the production floor and then get a few Performance Center parts or features. These are the guns that are called Pro Series. By using production frames the costs are kept down a bit.
