I purchased a 649-2 yesterday and would like to figure out the approximate DOM. BFZ0674. I could not find it in the fourth Addition? Thanks much.

Yours is the first BFZ in the database, but I list many BFV and BFY J-frame serial numbers that shipped in early 1991.

So we are thinking 91?
I don't list dates for any nearby BSU, but based on others that come before and after it alphabetically I'd say '95.
That's the year I'd put my money on.
BFZ definitely listed in 1990
I can only guess like others that 1995 is BSU
From what I have read frames were made in batches and not necessarily assembled and shipped in order. Some boxes had dates and guns shipped with a fired brass casing in an envelope were dated on envelope. The only sure method is to call S&W. Some people have been given the info, others had to pay for a letter.
