Sold off a few safe queens recently and have been considering a new model 686 Competitor { .357 mag & 6" bbl. } .
Any thoughts, experiences , opinions from current or past owners of this model ?

I've got one, converted to 7 shot, cut for moonclips, Apex DAO hammer, with a Deltapoint. Use it for action shooting and it's a blast!

I've got all the weights installed, shoot x-treme plated 125 rnfp over 5.5 grains of Bullseye and it just hangs there. If I do my part it will put them all in the same hole.

Cool, thanks. I do also reload, but wanted to get some input regarding the gun before I decided to buy one.

I have one. It's one of the best revolvers ever made. Mine came with an LPA rear sight, also the best in class. Easy to shoot, super accurate. What more could you want?

While I do not own a 686 Competitor, I do have two revolvers of similar design that are built on the N-frame.

My 625 Hunter

My 627 Heavy Hunter

Neither of my revolvers shipped with the very fine LPA sight.

I do have one of the LPA fiber optic sight sets on my 627 Pinto and I am very pleased with the sight picture they offer. Since the LPA sights use the Factory drilled and tapped scope mount screw holes, they are an easy upgrade to ANY Smith & Wesson revolver built on a D&T frame

On both of my revolvers I have replaced the Factory supplied grips.

Both firearms are exceptionally accurate. Both of my revolvers came from the Factory already Mag-na-Ported so both stay on target rather nicely even with some of the heaviest recoiling, SAAMI specification, Factory ammunition offerings that are available from the Big Ammunition manufacturers.

It would be VERY difficult to convince me to give up either revolver. Unless you were offering me Stupid Money for one, then it would be no thought at all :D

I would feel the same if I owned one of the 686 Competitors instead of the ones I already have

If you have a line on a 686 Competitor at a fair price, I would go for it. I think you will like the revolver

Here's a shot of mine before I put the Deltapoint on. It's set up so it will time with either the 6 or 7 shot cylinder and I can put the original hammer back in to have the SA capability.

I've also got a 629 Competitor that I had cut for moonclips for bowling pins and action shooting, but other than the moonclips and grips it's bone stock.

So yea, I guess I like the Competitors!
