I have a S&W model 627-5 ( Non PC ) SKU 163357 357 8 shot 4" Stainless Serial # DBR 9597 Mfg'd January 2008 , This model was made 2008 to 2010 . I read a post on another forum that Roy Jinks referred to this model as The 2008 Special edition . I understand that this Revolver is scarce due to its limited time in production . I am trying to find out how many were made . S&W Customer service does not have that info.
How can I find out how many were made ?
Appreciate any help

I'd like more info as well

I am a huge fan of 627s but focused on pre-internal lock variants. That said I do have a 4" non-PC acquired because of model rarity and model 27 style ejector shroud (non-full underlug). Mine is DCD7327. I do not have any info on this model but hope keeping this thread alive will bring more to the surface.

Ron,
Welcome to the Forum

Product Code 163357, the Heavy Barrel, 8 shot, non Performance Center, model 627, was not a limited edition firearm by design.

I am not sure why Mr. Jinks would have referred to this as a "Special Edition"

This was just a production revolver. It did not sell well and was discontinued.

The non-tapered design style of the bull barrel was not well accepted by many of us that love the styling of the original 357 Magnum, Registered Magnum and Model 27s.

That bull barrel made the revolver look like any average 629 or 657

As a lover of the 27/327/627 family of revolvers I do kind of regret that I never bough one when they were readily available.

The Factory has never been good at knowing or disclosing the total count of a specific design. The Factory's stance has always been that they are making tools and not collectibles

Most of the Firearms that we know the totals of were designs where the total production went to a single source. Obviously there are exceptions to my comment

Back when I was shooting a standard 6 inch model 27 for a PPC gun and everyone was going to custom heavy barrel guns, I thought the Model 29 barrel bored to .357 would be an ideal balance. Smith was 50 years too late with the 627 HB. Alas, with the lock, and 4 inch barrel, there was no way I was going to fork out to buy one!!

I'm also a fan of the Model 27 family, and have quite a few in my modest collection. I do have a 627-5, but it's the PC model with 2-5/8" bbl. and it wears Crimson Trace laser stocks. It's a little later than yours (CPF4256, ca. 2010). I had the understanding that the non-PC 627-5 had a short production run due to slow sales, not that it was a limited model release. However, it's still a very nice revolver and I'm sure it's fun to shoot. I really like my snubby and those 8 rounds! Enjoy!

I’ve asked the same question here before with no luck. Hopefully, something surfaces with this thread. All I know is you don’t see them very often at all.

True. They're scarce, but not worth the cost of lettering. Maybe a SWCA member can get that info from Roy Jinks in the private forum??

Agreed...too bad a standard looking barrel was never offered on 8round prelocks. I bought one of these scarce 627s because of the barrel, and it's a keeper. Like they say, plug it and forget it.

A standard barrel 4" 627-5. Not a 'grail' find, but close.

Yours looks like mine right down to the VZ grips. My grips don't have finger grooves, however.

I love mine, but about the only complaint I have is the scarcity of good speed-loaders.

I Changed grips to Atamont . They are beautiful . Those rubber grips are ugly
