Default Value of a 647 PC Updated

I stopped at a gunshop today while I was out for a ride and they had a 647 PC Varminter. I had a non PC 647 a few years ago that was a tack driver so I was interested. It had been shot, used but not abused, came with the PC gun rug, but no box or papers. Had a red dot mounted, and there was a Bushnell variable power handgun scope in the gunrug, I didn't look at the scope close enough to see what power it was, and a bipod, but nothing else.

They are asking $1250 and are firm on it. I looked on gunbroker, there was one live auction at $1500 plus with 8 days to go, but this is a prototype, not standard production. In completed listings, I saw a couple non PC versions and one had hit $3500! I'm thinking maybe I should have bought it. I was there just before they closed so I could go back and pick it up when they open back up.

Worth it? Thanks in advance for your input!

I have the non PC 647 and rarely see them for sale. I have never seen a PC 647 for sale locally. I think at $1250 that one would already be in the safe with my other one. Good luck.

The new cost on these was $1390 in 2014, $1419 in 2015. Last one I saw for sale sold for $2655 on 9-16-22. Not something you see every day. I think $1250 is a fair price.

Default Picked up a 647-1 PC "Varminter" Yesterday

Was checking out a gunshop not too far from home last week, and they had a 647-1 PC Varminter on the shelf. I had a non-PC one a few years back and it was a tackdriver so I figured I would give it a chance and went back and got it yesterday.

Locks up tight, pretimes with a .003 BC gap. Came with the mounted red dot, bipod, PC gunrug, and what looks to be a new Bushnell Elite 2X6 handgun scope. I was surprised to see a forged hammer and trigger, and it has the regular S&W logo under the thumbpiece instead of the PC logo. It does have Performance Center roll marked on the barrel though. It did have the correct grips also, I put the Hogues on after I stripped it and gave it a thorough cleaning.

Paid $1249, I think that was a pretty good deal.

Beautiful. Someone took a big hit on that one. What caliber is that?

I think it goes beyond " A pretty good deal ." I would have broken my wrist going for my wallet , as the saying goes here . I have yet to see one out in the wild yet . All my revolvers are of the older type , but one of these would have me changing my view .

It's .17 HMR. Once I find a set of quick release rings I'll put the scope on. Then I'll be able to switch back and forth between the scope and the dot. I think this gun and cartridge combo will be better served with the scope.

In todays market it's a pretty good deal. They don't show up too often anymore.

I would expect it to have the PC logo on the frame. It makes me wonder if someone purchased a PC barrel and mounted it on a regular production gun.

I wondered about that too, but where it has a forged hammer and trigger, and a trigger stop, it makes me think that is not the case. I've seen photos of a documented prototype that has the regular logo.

I've never lettered a gun before but i wonder if this would be worthwhile.

Could these be use of remaining parts at the end of the run?🤷‍♂️

You're a member of the SWCA. Ask Roy for a ship date and see if he provides and additional information.

The OP said it was a model 647-1 and if that's what's stamped on the frame, then it would be a PC model. The standard 647 model had no dash that I'm aware of. It is strange thst is has no PC logo though.

GR8 SCORE!

The .17 HMR is a fun caliber. I got a Freedom arms 97 a few months ago and I was hesitant about getting it for not being able to get ammo and come to find out it's more common down here than .22 mag.

I plan on taking some varmints with mine this year.

As per s&wchads recommendation I asked Roy for a ship date and he posted that it was shipped to a S&W employee in July 2023.

I'm assuming it must have been custom made for the employee out of leftover parts, as I don't think this has been cataloged for a few years. Not to mention I haven't seen anything , even PC guns come out of the factory with a forged hammer and trigger in a long time.
