Default Need advice on new 22 WMR revolver (Double Action)

I'm looking to buy a revolver that i can swap a cylinder and shoot both 22 magnum & LR out of the same gun.

I'm interested in the K-frame model 648. Would I be able to stick a model 617 cylinder on a 648? I love how the 617 has 10 rounds. If not, what gun should I buy instead?

Advice?

You can get a 617 6 or 10 shot and buy an extra cylinder for it. You can't fit 10 22 mags in a 10 shot cylinder, but the 6 works fine. Use the 10 for Long Rifle and ream the 6 for magnums.

The 648 might work, don't know.

I’ve heard people say the 22 Mag would work fine in a 22 S/L/LR chamber even though the caliber is a hair bigger. Do you think it would be an issue?

22 magnum will not fit into a 22 long rifle chamber.

22WMR won't fit in a 22LR cylinder chamber but it will travel down a 22LR barrel just fine once you have the proper cylinder or have reamed a 22LR cylinder to accept 22WRM. I haven't put a 22LR cylinder in a 648 however I have put a M17/18 cylinder in a M48 and a M48 cylinder in a M18. Works fine in both. Some minor fitting of the cylinder may be required and you may need the same or close dash number.

A 22LR chamber needs reamed for 22WMR, and the cylinder length needs checked before that is attempted. I would look for a Ruger Single-six convertible, unless you really want a double action. S&W still makes the 648, but they are not convertible, and rare in stores..
