N Frame Round to Square Conversion Grips
Guys need some help. I’m looking for “higher” end round to square conversion grips for my 627-3. I have Culinas on order now but just looking for an additional option. They need to be wood. No rubber. Any ideas? I just can’t warm to the round butt on an N frame. Thanks.

Look on ebay. Lots of choices.

Hogue has many to choose from. I have them on my 625JM and my 686-6 Pro Series. Work well for me. Bob

Here is a picture of some Altamont grips with the "Spanish Diamond" pattern I used to have on my 629. Unfortunately, they just don't fit my hand well so they have been sitting in a box ever since. I only shot about 50 rounds before I decided I didn't like them - but they do look good!

With the addition of a spacer, any square butt stock can be made into a conversion stock.

I have a set of Ahrend’s that fit my hand very well. Since Kim closed his business they have become “high end” but can be found at times on eBay.

Nill Griffe are an excellent choice. You can get different styles (combat, target, thumbrest, orthopedic) ,and open or close backstrap

Another vote for the Eagle Heritage - if you are looking for something factory style anyways. I have a set on a 57 Mountain Gun.

Hard to argue that. Jennifer said mine are actually ready. I did the combats in Clark walnut. Haven’t seen them yet though.

As someone else stated, you'll have to find them on eBay but Ahrends are pretty nice. Picked up these Retro Combat conversions a couple years ago.

I am very fond of the Hogues. These are Tulip wood
Since I always get my Hogues without the finger grooves I often need to order what I want and wait for them.
Back when I was working the SHOT show each year, I would visit the Hogue booth and select 4 of 5 grips to get from them when they tore down the booth.
They usually selected very good looking grain patterns to bring for display. When you order them, it is the luck of the draw. Hogue has been very good to me over the decades going all the way back to when I first met Guy Hogue at SHOT in Dallas. I think it was 1989
I still have 3 Round to Square Hogue grips waiting for me to find revolvers for them
As an example of what they bring to show off, I know it is hard to believe, but these are Goncalo Alves grips that were on display back in 2008. I loved the unusual grain pattern and had them marked for me so I could replace the plastic grips that SIG shipped on this P239

Yeah, for finger groove grips the Ahrends Retro Combats aren't bad. I have a set of them on my 627 Pro.
Of course the Culina round to square stocks are even nicer. Here's a set of Italian Olive on my 629=3 Classic.

My Model 29-6 came with the usual snow tire grips. I do not like round-butt N frames. I had a set of smooth N frame "Presentation" grips for a square butt revolver, so I made a spacer out of a scrap of maple, and then painted it gloss black and lightly glued it in place. The spacer could easily be removed if desired, yet stays in place.

I know. They are too long at the bottom and too narrow at the top........Got rid of mine too.

Thank you! I’ve been looking for a set of round=>square N-frame grips with a thumbrest ever since I got a 25-10 last year.

SJshooter,
Did you add two pieces to the set of stocks? One in each half?

I bought these from a forum member who made them a long time ago, so I didn't do it, but the fill-in piece of wood that covers the round butt is fitted piece that fills in each side of the grip. If you look closely at the third pic, you can see the seam.

Somehow yours show the grain better.
The Holly is beautiful. The Culina’s are currently making a set of Holly for my Python.
I have no idea where they get their wood but they have some amazing variety.

You already know about Culina.
As others have said, other options are:
Mass-produced but reasonably nice:
Altamont
Badger
Hogue
Karl Nill
Kim Ahrends (out of production so you have to look at the used market)
Spegel (super long lead time on new production)
Culina Rd-Sq Conversion in Osage Orange
Ahrends Rd-Sq Conversion (on the right)

Pretty hard to beat Culina's from any point of view IMO. Especially how they fit your hand. Last week they had 3 sets N rd to sq that were very nice in stock...
