Good morning folks,
I have an opportunity to pick up a used (probably heavily used) Clark custom 686-4, slab side with weighted underlug and their unique rear sight for around $900 at lgs. Can’t find much info on the interwebs outside of Clarks’ website. Most likely a PPC gun, quite dirty but very smooth. Anyone have any experience with one of these Clark guns? Good/bad?
Thanks for any enlightenment.

Maybe not slab side (unsure if my understanding of slabside is correct) but has a heavy/bull barrel.

Not with that type of revolver but sent a 625 mountain gun in for a conversion and trigger job.
Also a 686-3, 2.5” bbl. For a trigger job. Received the 686 last week.
Excellent work.
Single action like my 627 UDR. Possibly better.
Double action smooth. I couldn’t tell you how many pounds but the wife
took possession of it after a short range session and she had no trouble with double action firing.
The gentleman named Clay is their revolver man.
First class. Nice to talk too also.

When everyone was shooting revolvers in Bianchi Cup and PPC in the 80s, I shot quite a few including Clark custom. As long as you like the gun, you won’t be disappointed with its performance.

I've been a customer of Clark's for 50+ years, starting when they were located in the log cabin in Keithville, Louisiana. Many, many guns purchased from them and countless action jobs on different revolvers. Never a problem over that long period of time. Although Jim Sr. and Jr. are gone, the people working there now are top notch!! I live about 15 miles from the shop in Princeton, and even see Jerry Miculek and wife Kay there on occasion. As a previous poster noted, Clay is their revolversmith who does excellent work and a nice guy too. OP has a definite keeper in that particular revolver.

You didn't mention barrel length, so I'll assume it's a 6" bbl. $900 is probably a fair price, although you may be able to take it OTD for 8 Benjamins with a little negotiating. I've seen standard versions of 686-4s on GB in that price range, but the Clark customization should definitely add value. If everything is tight, and the bore is not shot out, you'll probably get yourself a nice customized and dependable revolver. Good luck, and if you buy it, please post some pics.

Picked up the 686-6, 4” Clark custom yesterday. Traded a sig 1911 for it. I’m thinking the cylinder might be milled for moon clips, and the rear sight may or might not be a cylinder and slide sight. I’ll post some pictures, if I can figure out how to do it, when I get home from work.
Thanks all for the good vibes on Clark customs.

I really think you would be happier with a 6” and I would be glad to give you your money back and a little profit for the 4”. I’m in the process of building a 3” Mod 681 and thought hard about buying a Clark Slabside barrel for my build. I’m going to flat side the original barrel and it will be lighter but it’s hard not to drool over your gun. Great find

That looks pretty cool even with the ugly hilary hole lmfao. Anyways I would buy it for 900. I bet its an awesome shooter. If you dont buy it, let me know lol.

Anyone have an idea as to where I might find a nice LEFT HANDED leather holster for this 4” slab sided beast…lol

That appears to be a fairly recent Clark revolver. I like the football grips. Those are definitely not original. I’m not sure what the purpose would be for that conversion but it looks like fun.
