Model 57 4 inch” FINALLY!
After patiently waiting for a very long time I finally find a very well taken care of Smith and Wesson Model 57 four inch! It does not have a pinned barrel or box but it has original receipt, paperwork and literature!
It also came with 100 rounds of ammo!
Here are some pictures!

Serial Number is N671486…. Does anyone happen to know when this was manufactured! Can’t believe this was $342 new back in the day!

Not enough of a turn line, you need to work on that.

VERY NICE! 1980 but I'm guessing it will letter to 1981 as it isn't pinned but appears to have recessed chambers...
Does that gun have recessed chambers...looks like it. Is it marked 57 or 57-1...
The 57/657 4" is my favorite S&W of all...
If you are new to .41...
1964-2014...The .41 Magnum
..and lots of good posts and links...
.41 Magnum / 41 Special Load Data Center
If you don't load...these are target velocity loads that are very pleasant to shoot in a 4"...(link goes to .41 not .45)
.45 ACP +P 250 Grn Hard Cast Flat Point (50 RND)

$950-1700 depending on the day, condition, accessories, -# and S, N or three letter serial number prefix.
Nickel will bring a little more than blue.

Ok so I didn’t do too bad with the $1100 I spent. I wish it were a pinned barrel but I think it’s in overall pretty good shape for being 45 years old

Bought one in 2015 or so......no dash w/presentation case but no tools, papers or ammo...iirc gave between 700-800 for it probably closer to 800 so maybe bought too soon back then.

Great catch on an outstanding revolver in an underappreciated caliber. I've been enjoying .41 magnums since purchasing my 1st back in 1971.
I'd say you did well with that purchase.

Very nice find! One of the rounds that I have never shot. .32 is another 1, except ACP. Enjoy your Magnum! Bob

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 4” in the wild. Nice gun. I think you did fine price wise based on what I see 6” guns go for.

Nice looking model 57. The trigger doesn't look case hardened, appears like the trigger has been swapped out.

Took a 4" M57 to South Africa back in the mid-80's, when it was not only allowed but encouraged to go armed everywhere. Two speedloaders, Safariland belt holster. Worked fine in the city and the bush, and I felt adequately equipped to repel criminals or terrorists (which fortunately didn't present themselves), and finish off large animals (which did present themselves).

This gentleman passed away and had one of the most insane estates of revolvers I have ever seen. He had over 50 pristine revolvers from Colt to Smith and Wesson. I intend on shooting this. The trigger was ordered this way (supposedly)

Very nice! I think I overpaid but oh well. It was a woman who was selling an estate of her late uncle. I don’t see any of these for sale in my neck of the woods. Buy once cry once

My Notes show N580,001 – N790,000 = 1980
So 1980 and it does appear mint, all original. I have several N Frames from that time. $342 seems a little high if it was bought in 1980. Maybe sat on the shelves for a few years.
Great find.

I am guessing a professional trigger job and the trigger was hard chromed.

What are these numbers? What do they mean
Can any one tell me what this number for the Model 57-1 means?

On the frame, you have the serial number and model number. The number on the yoke is an assembly number, which has nothing to do with the revolver's serial number. Now when it comes to the engineering changes with the Model 57-1, the -1 eliminated the pinned barrel and counter-bored chambers in the cylinder.

Wow, congrats. I'd love to have a 4" 57 as we can only buy the 6" 57 here in California. It's beautiful and I'd love to try a 41 mag some day because none of the ranges I know have any 41 mag for rent.

Colt's Royal Blue is about the only blued finish that exceeds that of the old S&W carbonia oil blue finish.
