I have a 648-2, made in 2003, certified by Smith Wesson, everyone says they were only made in 8 shot, mine is a 6-shot cylinder, I would appreciate any info, thought and value of gun.

Your revision, the 648-2, was made from 2002-2005 when discontinued. (SCSW4)

All versions of which I’m aware used a 6-shot cylinder.

A prelock gun (648-1) sold for just under $1000, plus fees, this last weekend. You may wish to check ‘completed auctions’ on the big auction site to get comparative values for a dash-2.

Welcome to the Forum! According to the "SCSW 5th Ed.", the Model 648 .22 Magnum Rimfire Stainless revolvers were released in three phases:
1989-1994
2003-2005
2020-today

The 648-2 was introduced in 2003 (discontinued in 2005), and you already know that yours is 2003.

I think that where "everyone" is mistaken is that the models in the first two phases had 6-shot cylinders, and only the models reintroduced in 2020 had the 8-shot cylinders. Yours should be a fun and accurate shooter. Enjoy!

And there's always the possibility that, whether a certain 648 was manufactured with one type cylinder, it wasn't swapped for the other. Sometimes it just needs a little fitting, sometimes a hand swap is required. (Hand swaps are for sure needed with the 617s when going from 6 to ten shot cylinders or vice versa.)
