I just got this 500 magnum and have a question -- what is the purpose for the rod I found stuck to the back of the top foam insert?
It is round and 5.5 inches long and .178 inches (4.5 mm) in diameter.
It is to the left in the picture.

It's the alternate compensator to use with lead bullets.
I think you're correct. If I had RTFM, I would see, on p. 26, a picture of it being removed with a similar-looking tool through the hole. But it says to use 2.5 mm hex wrench and this is round and twice the diameter.
I think you've answered my question -- thanks.

If you shoot a lot of lead bullets and get the inside of the comp and nooks and crannies around the comp packed with lead fouling, put that rod through the holes in the front of the extended comp and use it for leverage to turn the comp for removal.
The 2.5 mm hex wrench is just for tightening the locking screw on the comp. Loosen that screw first, then apply the rod if needed.

Jacketed ammo doesn't create the lead fouling that will solder the comp in place.

500 Magnum. now were talking!

That rod and allen wrench is for removing the compensator.

But that gun needs a shorter barrel for maximum 'fun' and 'excitement'!!!!
