My 586 has Hogue rubber grips and I'm going to install a set of Ahrends wood grips. I don't have a grip locator pin since it isn't used with the Hogue's.

First off, is the locator pin required?

Second, what size is it?

Don't know if all K Frame pins are the same, but a 17-4 pin is .118 diameter and .622 length. It is a roll pin. Some of my older revolvers are solid pins. The S&W part number for a 586 Stock Pin is 070220000, and price is .51 cents. I have Hogues on my 686, so I can't measure the pin, and couldn't locate it. Do know J Frame pins are smaller.

Thanks! That's at least a starting point.

WAY better than carrying the gun into Lowes!

Don't know the size or number, but I had to do the same grip change after I won an excellent set of wooden targets from a karma. I emailed [email protected] asking for a grip pin for a 686-3 Classic Hunter and a current catalog and requesting a bill. I immediately heard from Paul Gazda pgazdaQsmith-wesson.com "On the way" 4 days later they arrived no charge and the pin works perfectly. That's what I call excellent customer service! Thanks Paul !!!
