Default S&W 500: I passed

Had a chance to shoot a friend's new S&W 500 at the range Sat.

I passed.

Had a band gig that night and simply didn't want to risk a sprain or strain.

In fact, since it was a small, 5 lane, indoor range, I went outside until the concussion barrage was over.

No way I could focus on shooting while that honker was getting torched off.

Another guy took up the offer to shoot it and, I swear, he came within a hair of cracking himself between the eyes when it went off.

Maybe next week.

My 4inch M500 is a beast with 440 grainers, much more manageable with 275 grainers. Of course, they can also be handloaded down.

Interesting - the indoor range I frequent doesn't allow the 500 due the damage potential to the backstop. Big bores have to use the rifle range.

I don't shoot mine at all...just keep it on my ankle and hope I never need it.

Can't use anything more powerful than a .44 Magnum at my range either for the same reasons.
