I have a blued gun and was wondering if the finish could be changed to a satin or stailess finish? Maybe dumb question but just a thought from a newbie in gunsmithing.
"Stainless" is not a finish. A stainless gun is built out of stainless steel.
If you want to give a blued guns a "stainless-looking" finish, the blue can be stripped off and the gun can be hard-chromed, and there are numerous finish options available that can make your gun any color you want, from flat black to hot pink.
Thanks, I'm sorry, I meant to say a stainless looking finish. Thank you for the info, not crazy bout chrome but just rebluing maybe the way to go money wise.
There are various refinishing options that can make your blued gun anything from a matte, non-reflective silver color (hard chrome or satin nickel), all the way to a really shiny finish (polished nickel). There are also various metal surface finishes that come in a variety of colors. Many companies can give you options to consider, here is one that has a good reputation:
You might consider the gun coating offered by Robar. I had a blued 1911 done in NP3 by them and I am very pleased with the work as well as the satin gray finish of the NP3.
Hi:
In the early 1980s there was a finish called "Brushed Chrome" that I had great results with having blued revolvers and a Remington Model 51 .380acp refinished. appeared to be "Stainless Steel".
