Novak sight removal/install
Before I start pounding away on my 1066; which side of the slide do the sights come off left to right or vise versa.
And which way do they install?
My gun sights have never been removed.
Thanks.

SW, I have heard this advice before and as a matter of practice tend to do it as you advise, but as one who has made a few sight inserts and cut a few dovetails, the whole idea is to keep everything straight and perpendicular. That means no taper in which case it should not matter. Could someone please clarify this matter for me?

Mike 74, I cannot offer an explanation and cannot tell you if the SW dovetail cuts are tapered, however this is what was explained to me years ago with 1911, SW Semi, Glock, Sig. I have never gone in the other direction.

Thanks Guys. If Joe Bonar was still amongst us I would ask his opinion as it stands the next time, I am down to Novak’s I will ask Wayne his opinion and share his thoughts. I know this is not do or die but it does intrigue me.

Dont't mar up the sights, I just clamp them dowm in my drill press and flip over a drill bit and press them in and out, it has never failed yet

As SW CQB 45 states.
The easy way to tell is to look closely at the front sight. By looking at the front sight you will clearly see the tapered sight wedged into the dovetail.
Sometimes you can see the scratch marks on the slide as to which way the rear sight was slid in.

sights
I looked at the sights under a magnifying glass and saw the marks on the rear right frame and the chamfer/cut-in on the front sight.
So left to right out and vicky verky in.
But the sights are sooo tight I am going to a gunsmith to replace them; do not want to damage the frame with all the banging.
A member here has recommend Tooltec or Tectool or ?????? I have the name somewhere.
