Using S&W Performance Center for custom work?

Here is my thinking and I wanted to post it here. I have a JM625 that I bought new. It doesn't shoot reliably. Sometimes as little as 1 in 6 shots. I know it's probably covered under warranty but....

There are some things I am looking at getting worked on anyway. Chamfer the cylinder holes and trigger-job right off the bat.

I also discovered that my barrel is canted. Can I pay the Performance Center to "undo" this?

Could I get them to install a ball-detent on the crane? Disadvantages to this on a IDPA gun?

And I might have them install a night-site on the front. I do shoot in Low / no light so all my working guns have this. Figured I could swap out the brass bead with a tritium and paint the front site. Just like on my 1911s.

I have also read where some people are putting a slight radius on the front of the cylinders for "easier" re-holstering. I see some radiusing on my 625JM already. Has this option already been done to my 625JM or can more be done?

I have also heard some people are getting the trigger-face on their 625s modified.

Thoughts? What would you do and who would you have do it? Any options I am missing? If not S&W who would you use and why? Wait times?

I would and have had a 625 Model 1988 modified but by a known custom smith not by the factory custom shop. If they cannot get the gun right to begin with what makes you think their custom shop is nay better?

Andy Horvath did mine but there are others such as Bowen, Alpha, etc

At a min,, separate the job into two parts

1)fix the build problems,, do not attempt #2 until this is fixed

2)The rest of the story,,

You might find that more is fixed in #1 than you know. Like smoothing the trigger,, chanfer the chambers, straiten the barrel..

JM pistols are suppose to be semi-custom from the get-go. And if your is a PC JM,, there is no excuse for shoddy work..

I agree with JJ BBP. Get the gun fixed first. Make sure that what you've got is working properly and worth the custom work. If your gun came from the factory that way, then they need to fix or replace it. After it is working like it should or you have a new revolver, you can think about custom work.

Well I spoke to Andy Horvath and I was very impressed with his answers. Him and I sharing the same Governor certainly doesn't hurt in the getting it to him department.

Thanks for the heads-up on him.

BTW...I called S&W just to get a feel. They didn't seem too interested in even hearing about my problem. No biggie. I am used to full custom shops anyway for my 1911s.
