Default Cleaning / polishing your stainless revolvers

Okay. I've tried several (okay, lots of) products, and was wondering what you guys use to clean your stainless revolvers to keep them nice and shiney after a day at the range?

As of now I have no favorite, just another less than happy product I've tried.

Just whatever gun solvent I have handy and then use a leadaway cloth on the cylinder face or some flitz or mothers mag polish.Any one of those three will shine it right up.Just dont use them on a blued gun.

I really like to keep the factory finish. So any products (Mothers, Flitz, etc.) will change the finish. And once you start to polish, any minor imperfections will show even more.

I don't try to remove the flash marks on the face of the cylinder. They are just a sign of use. I have better things to spend my time on than to remove the darkening on the SS finish every time I fire it. I do clean off carbon on the surface. I also make sure the barrel is clean.

I tend to like the satin finish on my stainless steel revolvers. I feel that it really looks better and may not shine up as much if needed at night in a defensive encounter. When I was working the road and got a call at night where a gun might be involved, anything that gave my position away due to glare from street lights (hat badge, shirt or coat badge etc,) was a dangerous situation to be in. This was a serious issue back then and I always kept that in mind.

I clean all of my SS's with the execption of the front of the cylinder. Then use Ren Wax on the entire gun, including the frame under the grips.

Nev'r Dull seems to work well removing the carbon from the side of the cylinder and top strap area I don't rub to shine, simply to clean. Removes carbon in seconds.

Comes in a silver tin about 3" tall x 3" dia. Has cotton batting that is impregnated with the cleaner. It's actully for mag wheels.

Find it at any automotive store.

Use Flitz if it is gloss already, will remove small imperfections and then finish off with Renaissance Wax. Little goes along way. Put on with clean cloth, let dry, buff off with clean cloth. Protects the metal and keeps it purty. I use Renaissance wax on all of my guns. keith

Other than a routine cleaning after being shot, I don't polish them (1 exception) because I like the Factory satin finish. The ONLY time I have ever done this is when after 20+ years of carrying the same gun, it got so beat that I couldn't look at it any more. I then used Flitz on it, but did it by hand so the finish was not super shinny. After a while the Flitz finish dulled again and it actually looked almost back to Factory again.

I've shot it once, was all, with aluminum cased .38 ammo.

Accurate but it doesn't like aluminum. Have not had the cahnce to try the Winchester .357mag brass case ammo I have.
