This isn't for a S&W, but I was hoping someone could point me toward a good gunsmith for some rifle work. I have a new Remington rolling block action and a new unthreaded barrel blank that I would like to have fitted and headspaced in 45-70. The gunsmith I had intended to use is no longer available because of serious health problems. Does anyone know of a good single shot man who is familiar with rolling blocks and capable of high quality work? Emphasis on high quality, and hopefully located in or near southern Ohio or Northern Kentucky.

You don't live too far from me I am in Chillicothe. There was a first rate gunsmith down on route 52 west of Portsmouth Ohio, close to friendship, Ohio, named Jack Lewis. If you can track down Jack, he is one fine smith. If you can not find him try to locate Howard Kelly, outside of Lynchburg Ohio, he is a barrel maker and runs a shop called Webber Town Rifle Shop, no phone listed. If none of this works out for you let me know.

I remember Jack and was in his shop a few times before it was destroyed by fire several years ago. As far as I know, he never reopened for business. If he was still working he would definitely get the job.

Yes, the fire was a sad thing. I remember the old log house, I really liked to visit and made several very good buys from Jack. I spoke with him a year or so ago and he was doing a little work in a block building across the road from the re-built house. How much work he is doing is a question I can not answer. I believe his phone is still listed and you should be able to find him. I spoke with Howard Kelly last weekend and he indicated he would do the job, if you cantacted him. If you need a number for him let me know he does not do the internet stuff. Let me know if you have an interest, he has never done any work for me but I have a couple of his barrels on some single shots they are okay.
