Gunsmithing book review?
I received an e-mail offer from the NRA for a "Limited time offer" for a book entitled "Elementary Gunsmithing" by Perry D Frazer. I am definitely a complete novice when it comes to gunsmithing, but as an avid collector and shooter, I would be interested in knowledge of BASIC work that I can do myself. Have any of you had a chance to read this book yet and if so, I'd be very interested in any review. At $29.95, its a little pricey, as a gold inlaid hardback "how to" book (usually I think of those as paperbacks!) but if it benefits the NRA I'm willing to overlook that if it is useful to someone like me. Thanks in advance.

I am unfamiliar with the book you are talking about, but IMHO the book that is kind of the "standard" around here is the following:
"The S&W Revolver": A Shop Manual" Book by Jerry Kuhnhausen
About $25 bucks and is excellent if working on S&W Revolvers. While this book is excellent, you will also need a proper set of screwdrivers (Brownell's) a Gumsmithing hammer (Shooboy) a rubber mat of some sort (from your local Tavern, Bar or Restaurant) a few Dental Picks (ask your Dentist for old ones next visit) a magnifying light, a good set of extra fine SMALL Arkansas stones and a LARGE cup of patience. Now you will have the basics, just go slow, do this in an un-distracted environment and have the book close by. Start with small projects and work up from there as you gain confidence. Enjoy!
