Just bought model 28-2 with some lite pitting on cylinder only, kind of weird? Any recommendations on best way to remove it without removing the blueing? Thanks, Jeff
Thanks for quick response sqhead. I haven't owned a wheel gun for many years. carried a model 15 in the USAF, model 10 as a police office, model 65 as fed agent. The 28-2 is more gun than any of those especially with 6 in barrel. It is vg condition except for pits on cyl. Appears it sat without oiling for many years. I will get the wool today and let you know.
You can remove surface rust with gun oil and bronze wool, but not pitting. If it is pitting it is already through the bluing. Clean off the surface rust, remembering to rub "lightly", don't scrub. I would recommend Corrosion X first, or Kroil second vs. regular gun oil, and let it soak into the gun for a couple hours before rubbing.
