Will an oversize Power Custom cylinder stop work in a prewar 44HE? I know that it has a recess in the bottom edge, but if it were filled with silver soder is it a viable option. Or is there an oversize cylinder stop for prewar S&Ws on the market?

It will work with the hole filled with an epoxy or call them. I was told they made a few without the hole. Mark

Cylinder Stop

Burt the Custom Power cylinder stop fits but because of the hole the plunger is too short. I have been having a lot of problems with the standard S&W stop rising high enough to fully engage the cylinder notches. I installed an extra strength Wolf stop spring but it did not bring the stop high enough thru the frame window, neither with the standard stop or the Custom Power stop. It seems like the stop plunger is too short, although it is a standard size. The stop screw is also the standard size. The spring/plunger channel has been cleaned and pressure blown out. This old N frame 1917 was an early British contract in caliber .455 Webley and now has a 5" 44Spl barrel and cylinder/yoke assembly. If Custom Power makes a stop without the hole, I would like to try it first or as suggested, fill the current one full of epoxy. At any rate, nothing has worked so far. I am really open to suggestions. I have taken the lock work apart so many times that I can do an assembly in less that 30 minutes!

Cylinder

I used a 2nd model cylinder, the frame is a 2nd model. Were the early 2nd models fitted with left over triple lock cylinders and is there a delta? Is the stop spring and plunger of a different length?

Cylinder Stop Pin

Thanks Burt for the help and the good conversation. The problem is fixed and the cylinder stop now pivots thru the slot window as its suppose to do with plenty of tension. Lock up is like a bank vault, no slack anywhere and timing is "right on". Now I've got to go back and smooth up the action a bit to deal with a heavy trigger pull 10#s+. That tuning part should be easy, then to the range!
