Default Weaver #401 Top Mount Base ?

Can anyone who has used this base tell me if it has some kind of recoil lug or shoulder?

I can't tell from the item description or pictures but it appears to have a notch cut out on the bottom rear of base.

Weaver Top-Mount Scope Base #401

Thanks,
Chris

I have used several of that mount, there is a shoulder at the rear that fits in the cutout of the revolver. Never had any issues, fits the factory drilled revolvers only.

Yes, but the mount is a cheap **** that just lays on the top strap.
Weigand 1-Piece Weaver-Style Scope Base S&W Revolver is a much better mount that sits down in the rear sight cutout.

That is not correct. The Weaver 401 does sit down into the sight cut.
Just take a look.

If it does I stand corrected but I thought the only part that stuck down into the sight recess was the recoil lug. Other than that the base just sat across the top strap, just "bridging" the area of the sight cut-out with the three D&T holes.

I had one (thought it was a 401) I threw out. Pics aren't good enough (or show the area we need to see) to tell.

The Weigand base sits down in the sight cut-out. It does not touch the top strap except in the sight cut-out. Secure and aligned.

tomcatt51, you are correct that the Weaver does not sit down into the sight recess like the Weigand. I stand corrected, by sight cut I thought you were talking about the recess where indeed the Weaver recoil lug sits. My apologies, I was quite incorrect.
