686 Rear Sight Damaged - Will Warranty Fix?
I dropped my S&W 686-6 on concrete and damaged the rear sight blade. Had it in a range bag and forgot to close and zip the side of the bag as I was leaving the range and it fell out about 3 feet to the floor. This gun was bought new in 2011. Is this something that’s covered by the lifetime warranty or am I looking at having to replace the rear sight assembly on my own dime? I'm thinking if I have to do it myself I should probably look into a different rear sight that doesn't have such prominent edges.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Can't tell from picture but if it's just the blade they are about $10 and an easy fix. Maybe S&W will send you one for free.

Yes the blade's right edge bent all the way down into the assembly. It won't even adjust left or right. It feels like it's stuck.

Damaged Rear Sight Blade
First I would call Customer Service: 1-800-331-8052 and inquire about the warranty. If its not covered then inquire about the exact replacement blade including the screw and nut that secures same. The screw & nut have to be replaced each time the blade is removed or replaced. Would hope they make the repairs for you but if they do the time involved may not be to your liking. Asking for the proper parts and making the repairs yourself, if you are inclined is likely the least time consuming. Another suggestion is: if they furnish the parts find a local smith who is familiar with S&W Revolvers and have him do the repairs. Best of luck

I wouldn't think that a warranty would cover owner goof. If it were me I would call CS & tell them the truth. They have been pretty accommodating to me.

Since it's not connected to the function of the gun.....
Since it's not an operating part, maybe they will send a sight even if it just saves shipping a gun cross country.

S&W has them priced well but the last time I ordered something from their website it took nearly 2-3 months to get to me.

Something to consider: In order to replace the blade, you have to turn the windage screw to break the nut loose. If the screw is stuck tight and won't rotate like you said, you might have to file the bent blade down to the mount to free it up.
