I've got a 640-1 that is Mag-Na-Ported. While it does cut down on muzzle rise a bit, the concussion is significantly magnified with full power loads, and at night it is completely blinding. That said, I find it quite comfortable to shoot hot 38 loads. I would assume that Mag-Na-Port could handle your 340. They'll port the barrel and shroud separately like they would a semi auto slide/barrel.

If possible I STRONGLY SUGGEST you shoot a similar gun that is ported before you have yours done. gdogs is right, it can be very unpleasant to shoot, especially indoors (including an indoor range) or in reduced light.

Not only does Porting vastly increase muzzle blast noise but it will also decrease muzzle velocity, ESPECIALLY in a 2" snubby! BAD IDEA IMHO. It will also decrease the resale value should you ever be interested in selling it. Magna-porting has pretty much come & gone!

My suggestion would be to SELL the M340 Titanium gun and buy an all steel version. The added weight will greatly increase controllability and soak up recoil much much better than Porting will. In the long run it will more than likely cost you less as well. The all steel version weighs in at around 20 ounces but since the gun is the exact same size and configuration all your current holsters would still be usable.

Porting a Titanium gun will NOT solve your problems and while it might slightly decrease felt recoil, it will really make other things worse. Just get out of the M340 and into M60 (or one of the other ALL STEEL variants).

My opinion would be that porting a self defense gun is not the best of ideas. Muzzle flash at night, plus the increased concussion of the round would be bad enough. But if you have to shoot from a grip held close tot he body, that makes aother jet of flame getting into your clothes/ on your skin.
