Hi All,
Well I'm here, hat in hand, for help. I picked up a model 10-10 tonight and opened it up to look it over and sop up the excess oil in it. I put it back together and now the cylinder won't rotate. I can work the action just fine but the hand isn't staying forward to rotate the cylinder. I'm at the point of doing the same things but expecting a different result so I need to stop and seek advice. I took a pic to illustrate. Can you get me back on track?
Many thanks
John

It would appear the hand (shiny part in the picture) is not forward far enough and is sitting atop the sear, which should be immediately behind the hand, not underneath it.

My .02. More experienced eyes will be along shortly.

The hand spring inside the trigger is probably not engaged correctly with the pins on the hand. Easy fix. Never saw one broke.

When disassembling a S&W to detail clean there is no reason to remove the hand from the trigger. We have probably all learned this the hard way. I ground a old small screwdriver blade to just fit the width of the inside of the hollow trigger recess, and use it to compress the spring to install the hand. Otherwise you need three hands to do it.
