Not wanting to muck up this thread http://smith-wessonforum.com/139362442-post2005.html about the Highway Patrolman thread any further, I decided to start this one instead...

Good news for me! I dug out my best screwdrivers and went to work on my new Highway Patrolman this morning, and the windage adjustment screw came out without breaking. It was a little stiff, but it came out. I ran it in and out through the broken sight blade a few times to smooth out the threads and now it will screw in and out of the nut fairly easily now.

Got it all apart without losing the plunger or spring too. So I should be good to go with just a blade. Love it when things go right - it doesn't happen often, but when it does it is SOOOOO sweet! :D

BTW, the MidWay u-tube video about sight blade replacement is very helpful.

Hello BC38, you got lucky. Its no fun if you dont lose the spring and plunger. No reason to not cuss up a storm. Good job. Best

LOL, a big thank you to 19leban for pointing me to the MidWay video. I'm sure I would have lost the plunger if I hadn't watched it before taking things apart.

And BTW, I have enough reasons to cuss up a storm in my day to day life, I don't need any more. :D

In my years as a police armorer, my most performed repair job was replacing those blades. Practically everything else on a Smith and Wesson is cop proof, except those fragile blades. I always kept spares, along with the associated screws, plungers, springs, etc. guys would drop their guns, and ram them into the seatbelt socket in the squad cars, and I don't know what all. Back then we were issued the Model 66 in both 4" and 2 1/2", I wished that the department had selected the fixed sight version (more or less) of our issue revolver, the 65 (it also lacks the ejector rod shroud, in addition to not having the adjustable sight).

Best Regards, Les

BC38- Great job. I can almost always save the screw. I don't like to ruin a perfectly good part if it can be avoided. I have lots of blades from changing them out to my fiber optic sights if anyone needs a blade.

les, sounds like you had some great job security with all those broken sight blades!

OOOH! OOOH! ME! ME! ME! I need one - since I canceled my Numrich order until I got a chance to see if it would come apart.

How much would you want for one? Mine had no outline, and that would be my first choice (to keep it original) but I'd take one with an outline instead was that was what was available.

Mine is a .136" notch, though from this table I understand that they are available with notches measuring anywhere from .106" to .160"

I have several sizes, more of some, a few of others. They are measured from the top to the bottom of the flat part, not counting the threaded bottom part. I would ask $7.50 shipped, for each. What size? The .136?

I couldn't read the chart - too small. If you have a white outline and want a black, you can just turn it around with the white facing forward, then you have black.

Well, the chart says .136 with no white outline is the original.

BUT, I measured mine and it is actually at .126, so it is obviously not the original.

Do all of yours have the outline? Ideally I think I'd like one that is .136 with no outline, but if all you have are the ones with the outline, I'll take the .136 with the outline as a close second.

I'll send you an email so we can arrange payment and shipping.

THANKS!
